RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 10, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2019 I'm not best pleased. Nearly everything I took today is no good. I suspect that I didn't put the original lens back properly when I'd finished my experiments with the lens hood. Then I photoshopped a fiddly image, onl;y to discover well into the process that the so called magic wand had removed an essential bit of the composition. I'm not in the mood to redo it tonight, so I have just one image to offer. 60109 is waiting to be released from its train, while a B1 in more typical New England condition arrives with another evening stopper from Grantham. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 11, 2019 And so, having now found the folder of ready prepared photos that escaped my notice last night, I do have something more to show you. More views of Hermit, in fact. Now I shall do interesting stuff like changing my energy supplier.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 11, 2019 I think I've sorted the camera, and one or two of the images turned out to be more or less presentable after all. This one is saved by some very judicious cropping, and shows the Holme pick up on the last lap of its return to New England. From here on, things may get a little confusing. My latest Timmed A1, H A Ivatt, made its layout debut on the 6.10 Down Leeds, and was duly recorded. Rather prematurely, I decided that this, and another photo, were no good, and so today I put it on the following 6.20 service, and took photos of that as well. When those come up, please pretend that they were taken on a different day. Well, they were actually, so that's all right, isn't it? 23
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 12, 2019 Another day normally reserved for golf, but more gales and heavy rain, so it won't be. There seems little alternative to getting on with things upstairs. This morning we have a view taken using this new lens hood. It seems to have acquired a rather pink cast. I've no idea why. Anyway, I then removed the lens hood, and put the camera back to normal, or thought I had. That's when I ran into problems. I've kept this shot of a lovely D16 on the East shuttle, as we all like our Clauds, but something isn't right. I tlooks as though light is somehow leaking into the shot, but I haven't a clue why, or even if that is what is wrong. Can anyone diagnose anyhting from this view? 20
RMweb Premium great northern Posted March 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 12, 2019 The rain still pours down, so the right decision was made. Now I need to do a wholesale amendment to the Powerpoint sequence, and am finding reasons not to start on it yet. Here is another of the cr*p photos, just as the camera took it. If anyone can work out what was wrong, I'll be very grateful. Those slanting lines are not caused by sunlight coming in, as there wasn't any. 11 1
richard.h
I am not a digital camera expert but its the same fault on both photos and it only occurred after you removed the new lens hood, have you knocked something on the lens mount, if the camera has interchangeable lenses is it seated correctly. The easiest solution would be to take it to your nearest camera shop and let them have a look at it. better than possibly inflicting any more damage by trying to repair it yourself,
bigwordsmith
I wondered if it was a non sealing lens , but thought the definition would also have gone to pot- try a simple trick of gently removing the lens and refining it.
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted March 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2019 A finger print can sometimes do that - guess how I know. Did you touch the lens with a finger (or thumb) while attaching or removing the lens hood? If it is just gently clean the lens and see if the problem goes away. RMweb Premium great northern Posted March 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 12, 2019 Just another close up of H A Ivatt tonight, as I kept to my vow to get on with other stuff, and not spend ages photoshopping.
calvin Streeting
that dose look like a smudge on lense.. as it seem's consitant in location right side half way up (ish)... could the smudge be on inside of lense ? 1
RMweb Premium great northern Posted March 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13, 2019 I suspect the lens is not seated correctly, and will have another look shortly. If I can't immediately fix it, I shall, as recommended, go and get professional help. I got what would have been quite a nice shot of 60123 at rest, but for the lens problem. I'll try to remember it for future reference, but in the meantime, here it is, just as the camera saw it. We will also have a look at the formation of this 6.20 West Riding train, which served Halifax and Hull, as well as Leeds, but had no Bradford portion. It goes like this:- BCK TSO TSO FO RF RSP BSO BG for Leeds. TSO BCK for Halifax, and CK BSO for Hull. Owing to the wonders of casette technology, this can now be properly put together, and here it is.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 13, 2019 OK, so we have a 12 coach West Riding express sitting at Platform 3, and when I look at the sequence to see what's next, I find.......another 12 coach West Riding express. Hmmm, this could get interesting. I've made sure I have enough stock for each individual train, and I've identified cases where I need two identical cassettes in one train, but I admit I didn't consider the possibility of two needing to be put together at the same time. Here is Sandwich, running into Platform 2 with the 5.33 Up Leeds, and saying hello to H A Ivatt in passing. A minute or so later, she is at having a rest. Did I manage to get both trains correct, I hear you ask? Well, nearly. Passengers who should have been travelling in a MK1 SO found themselves in a Gresley vehicle instead, which may have pleased the more discerning among them. The only reason I failed was because of coupling incompatibility, so all in all I'm quite pleased. Camera update. I have reassembled the lens again, and all now appears to be well. Most likely then that it wasn't quite seated propery. 23
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 14, 2019 At last it has stopped raining, for a while, so despite the 40mph winds I'm off to get some exercise and fresh air. At PN, we still have a resting Sandwich. And after it's departure, a B1 arrived at the end of a long and slow journey from Grimsby. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 14, 2019 Too windy. Nuff said. I will concentrate on the 6.35 to Hull, and Grantham A3 Enterprise, viewed from under the bridge. I thought I had prepared some more, but apparently not, so that's it, folks.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Another bout of golf club politics today, so a brief visit, and another shot of the 6.35 Hull. This is another unusual formation, so I've recorded it as it passed. I shall now take several deep breaths, and have a cup of tea.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Today I have lost a cassette. This should not be possible, but nevertheless I seem to have succeeded in so doing. It must be there somewhere, but is proving remarkably elusive. Despite this some activity did take place, and the need for deep breathing continued, as things which should be coupled parted, and those which I wished to uncouple resisted. On top of that, one of our cameramen tried to come over all artistic again. It was actually so bright today that the camera seems to have been utterly defeated, as I could do no better than this however I tried. Sensibly, and after some more deep breaths, I went back to the side where results are more or less guaranteed.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2019 Gales again today, but not so much rain as earlier forecast, so maybe not too bad. Here's something slightly different, which turned out quite well. We also had a B1 waiting to take the last local of the day to Grantham, which I've left as the camera saw it, the blue painted walls having more or less done the job they were intended to do.
Martin S-C
I like the shot of the coal train very much. It looks very businesslike. Was there not an avoiding line around the train shed for up trains as there was for down traffic?

There was Martin, but it meant crossing the main lines twice, so if there was an opportunity to send things through on the Up main it would be taken. Come to think of it, I can't remember seeing a photo of a goods train using the Up slow. One or two passenger trains, including Pullmans, but no goods. 1

I can't at the moment, as there has been a point failure, and so far we haven't been able to fix it. Tony Wright is coming to have another go at it on Monday though, so we may get back to normal shortly.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2019 That was very windy, and very tiring, but the rain didn't start until I was sitting inside with my first glass of red. What's more, I had a very good game. One picture, and bed calls. The 5.15 Up Hull is due, and gives us another A3 to look at, Doncaster this time.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted March 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 17, 2019 Today is designated a "must get on with things" day, but then so many others have been in the past. Time will tell. The picture store is also about to become empty, as all that is left are these two images. We have a B1 off on the way to Grantham. and an A3 waiting to leave for London, taken from Crescent bridge by someone who has found something tall to stand on.
