Dunlop die cast material

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know if it’s possible to use low melt point solder on the die cast that Hornby Dublo used?

Hornby Dunlop?  Did they make traction tyres?

Only for the Metrovic C0-B0 model...

Joking aside, I've never tried to solder to either a HD chassis or body.  Unless its for some electrical purpose, I suspect that some sort of glue might be more successful.

Didn’t want to bond the parts I was just going to use it to buildup some damage it does appear to work okay although the usual soldering rules apply make sure the surface is mechanically and chemically clean use the correct flux (Carrs green label) and a low wattage iron. I would normally use ultra fine car body filler but it doesn’t always bond that well on a corner I find that solder works better.

Bear in mind that the metal used in diecasting is a sort of high melting point solder, I would imagine the only way to get a successful bond would be by heating up the model and using high melting point solder, an Sn10 at around 300 degrees might work.
