The Mystery station that has bugged me since September 1988

Recommended Posts

Every now and then you find some negs that are a mystery. KRS 240 was a roll of Black and white, the second half of which was Qourn and Woodhouse on the GCR

KRS 239 ,the previous roll ,was on the Nene Valley.

Obviously on a former four track main and derelict

I've posted these pics on other forums with no luck

Any thoughts

Saxby was (still is?) an interesting location. The illustrations are of the second station, so it is pure Midland; the first was located slightly north. Later the curve was eased on the mainline (after hostilities with the local landowner eased}, and the station relocated and enlarged.

Nothing left on the current aerial views. ☹️

The arch over the surviving lines seems to have been replaced with concrete too :(

Definatley Saxby - If its allowed can I recommend (if you do Facebook) and have railway images which are a mystery  the  Railway Identification Group . We started it to help identify our own negatives and it has grown to cover all eras from Victorian to the present day and all around the world.  The just over 3000 members have such amazing knowledge and we get recommended in other groups as the people who can generally help.

The stove from that box was, after the box was closed, recovered by the S&T gang for spares for the other stoves along the line. They recovered it by gently throwing it off the balcony at the top of the stairs. The bits required were then removed. My mate (who was a bobby down there), then got the remains.

I now have it in my living room. It has a lovely crack across its base, and is missing a few things even now, like a hinge pin (a bolt is serving for this) and the bottom damper door (a London Brick serving for this). I really must get round to sorting it out, but every year it gets a bit of fire cement and is pressed back into service!
