RMweb Gold papagolfjuliet Posted April 29 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29 (edited) It will be nice to have a decent RTR 14XX at last to replace the ancient Hornfix model and the DJ dud, and the 517 opens up a whole new world of Victorian GWR branch line modelling. David Bigcheeseplant
I heard a while back that someone was working on both of these.
BVMR21
Rather exciting, and given the RRP of £140 (£120 at retailers if using the standard 15% reduction), it's a very good value model. One or two may be ordered. 2
RMweb Gold franciswilliamwebb Posted April 29 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29 Streuth! A 517 has got to be a winner. It’ll sell like hot cakes inna-bun 😉 1
ndg910
Great news but just wondering if Dapol have heard another manufacturer are bring the former Hattons tooling back to market. The hints I've seen and the word from retailers is that Accurascale are close. Another Manor face off...?? 1 1
Jon Harbour
What awesome news! And there was me thinking, "Yeah, I've just about got all the locomotives I need for my planned layout now!" Given the autocoach they are building, it isn't really that much of a surprise when you think about it.
sandra
Modelling the 517 class is very brave. There were so many variations it’s doubtful if any two were identical. Their history is very complicated with some starting as saddle tanks. There were different wheelbases, cab and bunker shapes. Some had deep valences, others shallow valences. Some had full cabs, others half cabs. There were numerous other variations but in spite of this I’m pretty sure I’ll buy one. 7 3

exet1095
Which retailer will commission 1473 ‘Fair Rosamund’, I wonder? As this used to potter past my house (before my time) several times a day for many years, it’s one which I really ought to buy. Paul

Paul 1473 had a shorter wheelbase with inside bearings to the trailing wheels. 4

I shall ask my neighbour to have a look at the picture his father took of the engine and auto trailer at Shipton Halt some years before WW2. Maybe name and number plates with added licence in this case!
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted April 29 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29 (edited) Wonderful but very surprising after the recent turmoil with the Hattons/DJM version. I thought it would take a few more years before any manufacturer thought the market was ready for a new 48xx A 517 has got to be a winner. I hope they can do them right without any gotchas. The number one area of scrutiny will be how it rides/balances on the tricky wheelbase. Edited April 29 by Harlequin 3

atom3624
I've not seen any mention of 'all wheel pickups', which would be necessary for such a short WB locomotive. Is it just the drivers, or all wheels? Al.

Paul.Uni
I'm temped to get a 517. What one would be most suitable to go with the Autocoach in Crimson Lake livery?
RMweb Premium Neil Posted April 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29 Well that's a weird coincidence; I've just been re-reading the Wild Swan book on the Golden Valley Railway and thought that the 517 was probably the most obvious missing GWR loco. As a rule I'm not a fan of the GWR but the open cab 517 does look particulary lovely. 5

coeurdelyon
Hello, Regarding the 517 to go with our upcoming autocoach in Crimson Lake livery, product 4S-517-001 loco number 539 would be ideal Thanks for your interest, Cheers 9
