Ok, I'm definately new to this thread... but thought that the photos were wonderful - what's wrong with somethiong artistic?!? Thought that I delve back through some folders and try to suggest a few of my own - not all as artistic as those already here - but hopefully along the right lines:

Starting with a Bulleid lamp on 92 Sqn:

Thanks Peter. I was just looking out of the window, facing forwards, watching the 8F point up the gradient when I turned around and saw the sun effect in the smoke like this... and instant snap, but worth capturing. The fireman was restoking the firebox of 34081 (92 Sqn) at Hold, ready for its return run to Sheringham in 2007 - during my lucky experience of a cab ride. An interesting hour or so.

Hi all,

Here is some more train porn for you all...

first is 6024 King Edward I, pulling the Tawbay Express back from Kingswier to Bristol, passing the Dawlish coast.

Second is a photo of the suports for Dawlish station, very nice to look at.

And last but not least is taken from the footplate of Axe on the L&BR at Woody Bay.

Cheers

Chris

I have posted this elsewhere but hope the mods don't mind me adding it here as I have applied some creative touches to the cropping to just keep the two children in the pic to the right, and although I've had this pic in my head since seeing something similar in 1985. it took 25 years to actually create it!

These creative?

The class 37 is at Holyhead and was taken with a Pentax ME Super. About a 7 minute time exposure at F22. I walked down the train and popped the flash gun a few times to fill in the bogies. It really really needs re-scanning!

The class 66 was taken at Chester during relaying of plats 5 & 6 a few years ago. Canon 300D with a borrowed 50mm lens, about 10 seconds at minimum aperture.

These are from one of my galleries:

If Dali met Gresley

The reflection of the steam pressure gauge in 4468 Mallard is distorted in the highly polished paintwork of the cab roof.

The glass front of Locomotion Museum, Shildon is reflected in the highly polished paintwork of 4468 Mallard. Image has been converted to Monochrome in Corel Paintshop Pro and the contrast slightly tweaked.

This image picks up it's contrasting orange reflection from the scrolling LED displays in the museum. And here is a link to the rest of the gallery containing less "arty" detail shots of 4468.

Here are three attempts at being creative, the first two are taken at Grosmont showing a weed growing on Dame Vera Lynn, the second has been tinkered with, using a website to 'tilt shift' it and the 3rd was taken at the Port Erin museum on the Isle of Man showing No.12 Hutchinson being prepared to return to Douglas.

Some fantastic shots here - can't veiw the whole thread on my phone here but managed the first 2 pages. One thing does strike me though - where is the speed? On the moving train pictures everyone appears to have "stopped" the locos as if they aren't moving? Why? Has no one ever thought to drop the shutter speed and capture the motion? I appreciate that the steam locos won't be moving that fast on preserved lines but I still think it should be possible to get the movement in those wheels and rods at least, especially on railtours etc
