Does anyone here have a use for a couple of Nikkors, the old AF type (don't work with D cameras)?

Also some flashguns (Vivitar).

If you mean the "screwdriver" type AF, whilst they don't work with D3xxx and D5xxx cameras they will work with D600, D610, D750, D800, D810 and Dx series. I have a couple of these lens working happily on a D600.

Regards,

Dave

Help required!

So much knowledge on here.

I'm trying to sort out a holiday in September for an elderly couple.

They can't fly for medical reasons.

I've found an apartment for them but is there a way I can forecast the cost of Rail Fares?

Rhyl (North Wales) to Pineda del Mar (Catelonia).

They don't have much money.

I'll help them a little but they are friends rather than close family.

Two weeks in September this year. Return.

Any help will be much appreciated by all concerned!

There is an excellent website called 'The Man in Seat 61' which gives guides to such journeys but as mentioned above Festiniog Travel have been excellent for us in the past.

Here in the village the window is fixed and I now have some light n my modelling desk again and the slide show has been put together and reviewed.   Coffee and break time now.

Morning...

Busy weekend with a variety of challenges, punctuated by some modeling;

i) We were going to go eat/bowling with Trevor and Meagan Saturday evening but both places we tried were busy/2 hour wait, so elected to just go to our favorite Indian instead.

ii) Sunday trip to the Orchid show was abandoned after our friend discovered through reliable sources (her sister) it wasn't worth the drive. Brunch instead with our friend, time to catch up on things, delightful.

Much of the weekend was taken up following a decree handed down by the Queen of the land Friday evening;

"let it be known that the grand piano taking up FAR TOO MUCH ROOM in the living room, will be required to vacate the premises as soon as possible. It's sale WILL be arranged once suitable pictures are taken and it is cleaned/tuned" :O

Large amounts of time therefore spent, moving it into a more suitable position for cleaning/pictures, and a couple of hours tuning the beast on Sunday.

Working today, then as Mrs has a book club evening, will be consuming wine/cheese and putting the world to rights with the male half of our travelling companions.

+3 and partly sunny, high expected to be 8 today. Most of the snow cover gone and no more snow in the forecast so far...

Hope the week starts well for you.

A beautiful drive home in the sunshine, just one cockwomble who braked heavily and turned off, with no mirror, signal, manouver.

A fairly strong Easterly greeted me getting out of the car, quite chilly in the wind but warm when sheltered. Time for eyelid inspection....

In addition to those already mentioned -

1. In my view the best train time enquiry site for the European mainland is this one (I've also found it very good for hotel links as well)

https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml

2.  in terms of securing the best fares the simple answer is that it might involve a lot of shopping but my daughter recommends DB's SPAR (advance) fares as one of the best while OBB is pretty good (especially for the Balkan countries - not that they are involved here of course.  The odd thing is that while it might sound daft to look at, say, a German site for what you have in mind it is often the case that you find the best fare offers come from a different country's railway rather than the concern of the country in which you will travel.

If you click on 'Links' in the group of words at top right at top right and then on the relevant symbol on the line labelled 'Passenger' in this llnk it will take you to the timetable/ticketing website of that railway (not necessarily in English of course but some have an English version if you can find out how to open it ;) )

And RENFE's site in English

I am not familiar with these concepts of warm, a bit warmer and sun that seem to be getting occasional mentions here.

It was ruddy cold on my morning walk with a bitter easterly blowing. It made for a spectacular rough sea though. Watching it for a while didn't half shift the weekend cobwebs. If the tide had been in I'm sure the waves would have been crashing over the lighthouse again. The local lighthouse seems a popular stock photo now for the press when they want to show strong winds and rough seas.

Edit: A search for Seaham lighthouse wave images and you will get the picture.

Evening,  a really great day weatherwise here today, blue sky, a tad windy with a temp of 10.5 c which seems like summer after last week.

Given that I spent the weekend playing trains in the shed I have spent the day restocking the brownie points by cleaning both inside and outside of  swmbos car and doing various jobs that had appeared on a list of things to do.

It seems its another day of sunshine here tomorrow, long may it continue !

Enjoy the evening folks

Whales - wonder how the local authority will cope with having to get rid of 100 whales?

Not like this we hope.

The reporter (Paul Linnman) retired a few years ago. This was his most 'famous' report. It's something of a "life imitating art" piece - if you every seen the Thanksgiving episode of WKRP in Cincinnati you'll know what I mean.

When a very large whale stranded in Scotland recently it was cut up and carted away to a landfill site. Wonder if there's anything to retrieve from the whales beforehand - whale oil f'rinstance?

The usual method is to dig a big hole in the sand with earth movers and bury them.

New project and yet another day that hasn't gone to plan. Deliveries arriving late, wrong materials being delivered and on top of that I lost over 3 hours for a call out that shouldn't have even be classified as one.

I'm also loosing more time in the morning because someone failed to identify all the work on another project.

A quick report to write before browsing the world of RMW.

Back later

Crikey! Every 6 months or so it would be revealed again when the sea scours the sand out here.

Our sand is imported every year. The natural nearby beaches are rather muddy. Robbie is somewhat attracted to the scent of dead decaying creatures. He would be quote demented at buried whale scent. Not too many come up the Thames nowadays.

Evening.

Tales of the Ben-my-Chree exploding, sinking, destroying the pier are Manx Rumours. It nudged the pier, some handrails were wiped off, and it damaged the fire main (has pressure on it when manoeuvring) causing a bit of water to spray out. End of.  The Manx Crabs are making a mountain out of a crumb of soil as usual.  They do like a good moan, and of course are all experts at whatever thing it is they are criticising.

Manx Forums is the most depressing on line experience I have ever had.  Reading an 'expert's' view on my old department was highly amusing though, as they had been told by a man in the pub who 'worked there' about a particular case.  Really?  No, it was a guess about something to try to start a row, and spread a bit of trumpism to try to get someone off the hook.  A bad guess as it turned out, and they got a shock when they were called to task over the content - turned out they didn't know we could identify them if necessary. And prosecute them.

Morning awl,

as you can see its an early start since i can't sleep again.

The mrc went well, cars loaded for tomorrow's show.

I went home diving through a mini blizzard, it was begining to settle, could be landrover time In the morning.

UK bathrooms have to have all electrical equipment except shaver sockets permanently wired in. The rooms are zone as to what and where you can put things. Zone one in the drawing shown no electrics at all.

I am afraid that is not the whole story the outside zones are also known as zone three. There is a semicircle of zone 2 above the sink.  Any socket in a room containing a bath or shower must be 3m away from zone 1 (which probably means outside of most bathrooms) except for low voltage outlets. Any shaver outlet must be fitted with an isolating transformer and should be out of the line of any spray.

I would always recommend an IP44 rated light fitting which is resistant to any spray.

Train spotting outside the office tomorrow.

Tornado is en-route to Appleby as I type to take up it's S&C trips over the next three days.

I'll bet Settle station is rammed with people tomorrow

http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/Safety-warning-to-train-spotters-expected-to-flock-to-see-Tornado-in-Cumbria-d787a63f-5cbf-41e6-a784-267a448fb712-ds

I wonder if any of them want to buy DCC equipment?

Cheers,

Mick

What a difference a couple of days makes. Today dawned with brilliant sunshine. My 'phone app indicated that it was freezing so I grabbed a winter coat. It wasn't freezing. On my way back to work after a cleaning appointment at the dentist I changed it for one less heavy.

It is now pushing 14°C / 57°F. The snow cap on the mountain is shining brightly and the river levels are dropping from the heavy rain last week. (Evidently the car park at the dentist had been inundated again by the stream at the bottom.)  It's a nice spring preview.

It will rain again later in the week.

I am delighted to report that the LEGO Batman movie did feature 'atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed'. Silly nonsense but really fun.

but as mentioned above Festiniog Travel have been excellent for us in the past.

I'll put my vote with Ffestiniog Travel too. Everything from bespoke travel to fully guided tours. Just give them an idea of what you want to do and they'll come up with the options!

Well, what a great day! Finally, FINALLY got a date for my back to be sorted.

Pre op meeting with the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in March, and he specialises in lumbar discectomys.

Pain is sort of under control, but still excruciating at times, but I'm sort of getting used to it.

Good news is several weeks off work following the op, so jobs I've been putting off on the layout, like a rewire and replacing the track with Bullhead may well start in earnest.

Regardless of weather the suns shining in this house today!

Even Mrs BR's 3 dozen red valentines roses have arrived as ordered.......smiles all round in the Sullivan house this evening!

Nite all, of to sleep in th arms of Mrs BR and madams Tramadol and Diazepam. Xx
