Weather still not quite cooperating with the desire to drive the convertible to-down <sigh> but here's the picture anyway...

Afternoon All

I was out of salts yesterday I think 7hrs on and off a charbanc didn't help on Monday, the vertigo kicked in twice whilst we were away and again in the early hours of yesterday

I surfaced at 8am this morning and sat quietly weathering some wagons as I was still light headed when that finally cleared and was ordered to fit a new light switch by SWMBO

that done I had lunch.

for the rest of the day I will bury my head in some new S/H books I bought at the various heritage railways over the week end.

Oh.. Sum'its up.

SWMBO reported police cars and sirens.  Including blocking off our lane outside our house. 

I saw plain clothes in our lane about a mile away I think going house to house.. 

Neighbour reports a crash this morning outside our church. 

 

I doubt there's been  police in our lane in years...

Some evidence that "what goes around comes around" today.

Was ordered to drop some stuff off at a charity shop and spotted some dvds that would be of interest to one of swmbo's special needs kids. So, bought those and then popped into the bank to do some admin work on mum's accounts. Whilst dealing with the paperwork it turned out there was an account registered in my name and address with £37 in it that I had no knowledge of, dating back to the mid 90s. Whilst not looking a gift horse in the mouth 3p interest over the last 20 or so years seemed a bit "frugal"!

I have some very happy memories of my son playing in the South Bank wading pool on a visit home. Before the area was redeveloped for Expo 88, it was an industrial area served by a branch line which ran parallel to the river and the main line to South Brisbane station. This section of the branch was closed in 1960.

 

The branch terminated close to the Victoria Bridge. A plinth and portal from the older bridge was preserved when the current Victoria bridge was built. It ran around the back of the dry dock where HMAS Diamantina resides and finally into the 'Gabba yards via a tunnel in the vicinity of where the Captain Cook bridge carries the South East Freeway from the south side of the river. 

 

HMAS Diamantina is infamous in my family. My little sister had a bone fracture falling down a companionway.

' Afternoon all from red dragon land.

 

I have not had much chance to be here for a while and it is just a quickie before kitchen duties beckon.

 

We managed to get to the '40's Event on the Llangollen Railway on Saturday.  Freezing cold so we spent nearly all the time on the trains or in the cafe's. Excellent day!

 

West Shore, this morning, helping Ray's progress with the signalling.

 

This afternoon, I went for a short walk to collect a forest-in-a-bag or, rather, various bits of moss for landscaping Cakebox Challenge 2.  

 

Then, I unwrapped our bubblewrap covered New Zealand fern in anticipation of the imminent warm weather. -  the one that sent up a couple of fronds after being devastated by last year's Big Freeze.  One frond had died off but another one has taken its place, and yet another one has just popped its tiny head out.  Looking forward to a good show this summer.

 

Thinking that would be that, I noticed some things called "weeds" gathering pace in the raised garden and in the plant pots... Sorted!   For now!  There is still the path - daisies, dandelions and forget-me-nots are the main contenders.

 

Off to the kitchen, now...

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Starting to feel the first effects of hay fever, technically not hay fever as it is largely tree pollen this early in the year. Not a lot planned for the bank holiday weekend except for the small show at Canvey on Sunday. Club night tonight and I need to consult the electrickery experts. Be back later.

Afternoon all.

I found some suitable gloves and goggles for my planned task of stuffing cavities with insulation but had to pop out to a builders merchant for a dust mask. This is a proper establishment not one of the DIY sheds. I managed to stuff about 60% of the area before running out of glass fibre. Just as I swept up the spilled bits, the neighbour who donated the insulation arrived home and gave me two more bags. So I know what I am doing tomorrow.

Aditi has been busy in the garden, modifying the shape of flower beds. 

One interesting thing I discovered was that some central heating pipes  that now are inside the garage space (due to moving the garage door)  were completely uninsulated.  I suppose the assumption being that the heating would be on in the winter and they wouldn’t freeze. 

I keep forgetting that this week contains a holiday on Friday. I know we are going to Enfield on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday Aditi and her siblings and associated family will be taking MiL out for a pub lunch. Aditi has organised this as she doesn’t live in Enfield and can use a phone. On Sunday it will be lunch at Aditi’s sister’s house. Our nephew Josh ‘s girlfriends parents will be coming from Italy and breaking their journey from Stansted to Brighton to meet Josh’s parents.  I think Aditi’s sister is concerned that as the visitors don’t speak English then the conversational duties need sharing. I can’t see a problem myself. Nephew Josh has been learning Italian, his girlfriend, Bianca speaks perfect English, Raj (Aditi’s brother speaks Italian) and Punam’s husband Ian has been listening to his “learn Italian in a week” programs.  I don’t think the naughty words I have learned watching our Inspector Montalbano boxed set of dvds would be very appropriate though.

I may have mentioned before that many years ago in my rugby playing days the club held a weekly raffle. I entered that damned raffle very week for years and the only thing I ever won was the "booby" prize - a copy of Playboy with the centrefold torn out!

Thanks for that. I saw the old abutment and wondered what it was. The area is getting a new railway in the form of an underground that runs frim IiRC fortitude valley via Roma st and the CBD then under the river by the Goodwill bridge to The Gabba.

 

As to a certain magazine that's been mentioned  there's no need for such things with all these long limbed young Aussie girls in short shorts. I keep getting looks like daggers when the waitresses pass our table in restaurants.
