Popular Post PatB
Morning everyone. Well, it is here, anyway. I've a market today so it's up at stupid o'clock, and drive 40 km over a winding road, populated by kangaroos and Very Serious Bicyclists, before trolleying my wares up a short hill to The Coldest Spot in WA and freezing my feet to the paving until early afternoon. In reality there are upsides. I can reasonably hope for a few extra bucks in the money bag by the end of the day, the craft market community are generally pretty good people, and if I'd realised that making and selling pots opens so many conversations with attractive young ladies I'd have done it long ago, rather than 25 years too late . Anyhow, I loaded the van yesterday evening, so there's nothing to do but get in and go. 8

Mountain rescue teams have reported an abnormal number of callouts from Dartmoor to Ben Nevis since travel restrictions were eased and have been dealing with an escalating number of idiots and the insanely unprepared for some years now. I don't know how you manage this. Easy - if they're cockwombles doing something stupid (e.g. climbing Snowdon in flip flops with little kids in tow) then bill them. And don't mess about - numbers with three zeros. If they're being sensible but circumstances conspired against them then that's ok and no bill required. A donation is good though. 6 hours ago, simontaylor484 said: Draclear been to do blood test dont like needles to start with but my right arm throbbing now (yes thats the one i had blood out of) Came same time as mental health therapist her first visit from start of lockdown. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 31, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. It got rather breezy this afternoon and I did think we were in for a storm but the wind dropped without any wetness. Its still warm and sticky but better than it was. I forgot the eggs today so its a yogurt for breakfast tomorrow (made from oats, none dairy).
Simon G
Happy Anniversary to Ian and Mrs Abel. Summer finally arrived here for about 6 hours today. The sun came out around 10am, and we actually reached 20 degrees for the first time this month, then the sun disappeared again at 4pm. By 7pm things were back to normal ie cool, then chucking it down by 9pm. Hopefully August will be an improvement! Various gardening tasks done today, including lawn mowing, weeding and lifting some potatoes. Probably more of the same tomorrow. 13 1 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted July 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 31, 2020 Evening all from down here. First congratulations to Simon G on the good news. Simon T, i also hope that the figures work out for you. I haven't looked back sincecI finished 18 years ago. Happy Anniversary to Ian and Mrs A. I got quite a bit done today and then we wentvquizzing. To all our surprises we came away with 1st prize of €50 as there were a lot of teams in. Then homevin a good mood to find the bad news that a good friend from California had died of a heart Attack. Sally was her husband Dave's eyes and driver and we had two days with them last year. We first met them on the California Zephy in 1995. It is a devastating loss for Dave. Neither of us feel up to ringing him tonight but will probably contact him tomorrow. Regards to all. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 31, 2020 Good evening everyone BEWARE RANT MODE ON! This morning’s visit to the Trafford Centre was uneventful, apart from seeing a couple of people not wearing masks. Neither were of ethnic Anglo-Saxon stock, and these people then have the nerve to say that they are being victimised because of their skin colour, no, it’s not about their skin colour, it’s about the fact that they don’t follow the fecking rules! RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 31, 2020 Good evening everyone Well it’s been sunny for most of the day, I had a pleasant walk to the butchers, where I was met with a small queue, something that was missing during last weeks visit. Thankfully I only had to wait 20 minutes, but they had no chicken at all, there delivery was late and they didn’t know when it would be delivered. Whilst I was at the Trafford Centre this morning, I called in to M&S to have a look a shirts, as I had had a buy one, get one half price offer on and I also had some vouchers that expired today. In the end I bought 2 rather nice linen shirts, which usually retailed at £29.50 each, for the princely sum of £5.25, result! After dinner and continued writing the article I intend to submit to the MERG journal. The text and diagrams are all finished, I just have to take a couple of photos over the weekend and conduct a couple of tests. It went quite dark towards late afternoon and it started to rain around 6 o’clock this evening. But it didn’t last long, at least I won’t have to water the plants this evening. A task that was on the cards this morning. Happy anniversary to Mr Mrs Abel. Goodnight all 14 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted July 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 31, 2020 A routine shopping trip to Eastleigh turned into a bit of drama this afternoon, when crossing High Street (near AC Models) I tripped over the kerb and lost my balance, staggering wildly before going down onto the pavement. I tried to avoid breaking my wrist in landing but actually broke my left little finger. I didn't realise at first and after gathering my wits, courtesy of two nice ladies who let me sit in their shop, I completed the shopping (skipping the model shop) and got the bus home. It was clear all was not well, though I thought it was dislocated, so I got Mrs mole to drive me to the Urgent Treatment Centre (was the Minor Injury clinic). Finger was duly X-rayed and found to be broken at the base above the joint. It was pulled back into line and strapped up. It's not very painful but the wrist and forearm now ache a bit, presumably due to the impact. I have to keep the strapping dry so as OIC kitchen I have excused myself washing-up duty. I was feeling a bit worn so was going to bed early but discovered BBC Alba wre showing Skipinnish at Barrowland, so I'm watching that first. goodnight awl, stay elfy, Pete

It was definitely sleep on the bed and not in it. The rain does not appeared to have reached here yet, and according to the weather radar it won't, as its broken up, East Lincolnshire is getting it at the moment and it's just left Suffolk and Essex. Time to rollover and sleep..
chrisf
Greetings one and all, with Happy Anniversary to the Abels. Sometimes I wonder what BT Mail will do next. Their latest miracle is that as of yesterday I cannot view e-mails that I sent prior to 10.50 am on Wednesday. The man in Newcastle whose ear I bent yesterday afternoon and early evening seemed optimistic that some of his clever workmates could find them and put them back where they belong. My tacit reaction is "yeah, right". Why does technology make stuff more difficult when it is supposed to do precisely the opposite? It did not take me long to realise yesterday morning that dealing with the jungle at that time was not a good idea. It turned out that it was the third warmest day on record or something equally uncomfortable. Little Leo next door was splashing away happily in his paddling pool without a care in the world, as you do when you are only four [I think] years old. Oh, how I yearned for a beach and a gentle breeze wafting off Lyme Bay! To answer whoever it was that asked, I don't think that my lawn is big enough to accommodate my tent, but thank you for the thought. Having done the fodder run yesterday, and who needs to be too predictable, I plan to spend some of today and tomorrow viewing virtual Sidmouth on line. Before I do anything else, though, I will have a long and relatively tepid wallow. No doubt I will sweat profusely afterwards but it's worth a try. Best wishes to all Chris 3

He was in a hurry.... But very a very happy Collie. Oh and the spam email was obviously from someone outside the UK, who therefore doesn't understand how our licencing works.. 5 C
White Rabbits. Morning awl from a narrowly avoided lockdown Luton. In case you hadn't noticed, buried in Thursday evening's announcement of new restrictions in "The North", there was a brief, one line mention that Luton could be brought into line with the rest of the country (at least as far as gyms and things). Like the rest of the announcement, it caught everyone by surprise, not least because a review wasn't expected for another week. By the time the full details were published it was nearly midnight, so it was mid-morning before the council could clarify exactly what was happening. Even then, there was confusion over exact dates for reopening gyms. Mine will now reopen today, not that I will be going. The fact such an important announcement was initially made using DT's favourite platform instead of more traditional channels, suggests no communications professionals were involved. Anyone worth their salt would have foreseen the ensuing chaos and had at least some semblance of a plan. [/Rant Over] Yesterday's temperatures reached 35 degrees here, so I didn't venture outside during the day for too long. Ceramic tiles on the floor keep my kitchen cool which is fortunate as it currently doubles as my office and facing west, it gets full sun from late morning onwards. Instead, I enjoyed a half hour brisk walk round the nearby park after dark. Today's exercise will consist of a walk to the Post Office to return an unmentionable eB*y purchase which arrived damaged earlier in the week. I knew it would be as soon as postie presented me with an oversized box in which there was considerable movement. Being of Italian origin with the solid lump of heavy metal for ballast, its fate was sealed the moment it was placed (chucked?) into its totally unsuitable packaging. I shall return what's left of it in something more appropriate. Congratulations to the Abels, good thoughts to those struggling or ailing. Onwards and upwards! Regards to awl. 15

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2020 My finest hour in dealing with hoax callers was last summer when one day whilst I was sitting in the garden having a coffee during a break from weeding a man with an Indian sub-continent accent called to say that he was from Microsoft and that they had noticed my computer was running very slowly due to some malware and very soon it would be rendered useless unless something was done about it. I recognised this as an attempted hack (for a start, what is the likelihood that Microsoft would monitor the hundreds of millions of computers that run Windows?) but since I had little to do for a while except sit in the sunshine and drink my coffee I went along with it, mainly out of curiosity. I told him that yes, I had noticed that my PC was slow and had wondered if anything could be done about it whereupon he must have thought he was on to a winner. He asked if I was at my computer and I said no but I would go and start it up. To cut a rather long story shorter I strung him along for quite a while with comments such as, "Yes, you're right, it's taking an age to boot up," and then pretending to press the various keys or click on the boxes that he said would appear until he started to get somewhat impatient and asked whether a certain drop-down menu had appeared. "Not yet," I said, "But a message has appeared from Microsoft." He sounded a bit surprised and asked what it was. "I'll read it to you," I said, "It says do not respond to criminal scumbags who call you pretending to be from Microsoft." There was a pause before he started yelling and threatening me with all sorts of vitriolic abuse so I hung up and left him to it after having taken up a good ten minutes of his time. Cheap shot I know but it gave me some inner satisfaction. Have a good day everyone and hopes that Pete's injuries get better soon. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2020 Morning all. As it is now the 1st of August shielding for those like me on immunosuppressive medication has ended. The powers that be now say I can go to work and just follow general social distancing rules. Just as people are flocking to our local seaside town and the number of Covid cases locally is increasing again. Fortunately I don’t work so can carry on as I have been. Aditi wasn’t able to try out the Pay at Pump app yesterday as it doesn’t work at our local garage but it was so quiet she went in and paid. Everyone was masked. She probably won’t need petrol until Christmas now. We are having 75kg of salt tablets delivered this morning. This is a bit heavier than my usual DPD delivery (small cardboard boxes containing toys). Tony 1
