Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all. Warm thoughts to Mick NB and his brother. Many thanks to all who said encouraging things about my encounter with the CT scanner. As I had been given to understand, it was nowhere near as painful and undignified as the default colonoscopy would have been. The preparation was much better this time thanks to greatly improved instructions and much more effective laxatives which would have given nitro-glycerine a run for its money! I was not nearly as weak as I feared after having nothing to eat for over 24 hours. I must now try not to worry about what if anything the scan finds. Back in normal life, the seasonal greetings cards continue to arrive. I use mine as decorations by fixing them to a wall with Blu Tack in a mosaic based pattern. I will have more time to admire them this year. It is at this season, festive or otherwise, that I learn of old friends and what they are doing. Mostly the news is good: here a new partner, there an early retirement. It cannot all be good news but I will worry about the sad tidings if and when they come. There was news yesterday that those with family members in care homes will finally be allowed to see them, subject to terms and conditions. I knew at the time how lucky I was to be allowed a brief encounter with my aunt back in September. There is always a way but I fear that there is not always a will. I do have a sneaking suspicion that here as in many things there are some who use the virus as an excuse for inaction. Best wishes to all Chris 3 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Good morning all, Still dark but dry at the moment and 5°C. Rain, possibly heavy, is forecast. Bin lorries x 3 due today along with Sainsbury's, 2 cases of beer from Cornwall and Suffolk and a couple of other parcels. Sainsbury's have advised we're getting everything bar one small not very important item. Nothing else "exciting" happening so farewell for now. Have a good one, Bob. 21

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Mooring Awl Inner Temple Hare, 731 / 456. I fell asleep very early last night , Book on chest... 4 hours later... I wake up, remove book, turn bedside light off, go back to sleep for another 1 3/4 hours, after that it was intermittent dozing on the sofa.. My hands were stiff this morning not painful, and the pain in my spine has reduced to one point 1/4 the way up.. Ben the demanding Collie wanted out this morning early, he didn't get it till due time,. He did have a good wander around following scents, until some bird in the distance gave out an alarm call at which point Ben ran for home.. During tonight's awake periods I was considering the air ducting for the dust extractor in the workshop. On the main bench I've decided each equipment trolley will have it's own ducting built in, so a hose dropping from the ceiling will just plug in. On the lathe bench, it of course can be fixed, so after playing with various designs It's down to two lengths of pipe cut to provide 3 pieces, plus it needs three bends and a junction , I've have however decided to make it 4 junctions as they will provide rodding points, because you know what will happen if I don't. That will also require 3 caps as well. The company put out notices of where the 3 small containers are going for the displaced furniture, during the ceiling replacement, with a warning not to park there.... But... there not there.. they've put them 30 ft from that spot... and... it's across a gravel car park.. That's going to please the outside contractors moving the furniture.. I am dearly missing my landrover, it would be just my luck to get enough snow to stop the car being used, but be light enough for the land rover to not have a problem. I've also got to hope the orange shed has it's cutting machine working tonight after lockdown, as the car can't take a big sheet of OSB. Time to stroll down to the Lab that Temperature meter has passed it's calibration, I've a couple of post cal checks to do and then print the paperwork, add labels etc.. That'll take a couple of hours .. then what to do... Time to Check the coompany spam first though 22
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Good moaning. First, Chrisf, glad to hear that things went well. Mick, glad that you were able to talk to your brother. As you say this can be a long road to travel. I know, but it can be travelled and having a supportive family is a good starting point. Good to here that the BoD's seem to be doing OK. Yesterday was a labouring day. Two sessions of hammerring the bathroom floor, cleared and cleaned another 15 tile spaces, I'm halfway there. My shoulders ached last night but are OK today. In the afternoon the labouring was of a different kind details in my layout thread. I was rewarded for my labours with stew and dumplings, my perfect winter meal. Today I'm off to Angouleme with the trailer to pick up the new bathroom suite. A mate is going to help me load it. HowevercI have a cunning plan for unloading. Some shunting of the trailer in the shed will position everything near a door with the ramp down so that a sack cart can be used. Anyway have a good day/night and stay safe. Jamie 15 1 1

I have done that it the past and am typing this on my iPad via the phone. I connected so that I could download my morning paper, for which I have a subscription. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 3, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Good to hear that ChrisF's procedure went well. The sore foot kept me awake last night, after a few nights when it bothered me little. I suspected that it was eating spicy foods that made it flare up so I had cut the spicy food out and it seems to have done the trick. That was until yesterday when I consumed some salami but that just confirmed my suspicions. Now to run a bath, or go back to bed until the bin wagons dawn chorus. 5
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2020 Glad to hear Chrisf enounter with the CT scanner went smoothly. Our trip to a pub went well. On the way we passed a very quiet Spoons then another quiet pub right in the centre of town and our Harveys pub has not reopened yet. I was also told that another pub wont reopen till they can serve drinks without food. An odd one that as it normally full of people having a meal. The pub that we visited had run out of Scotch eggs as the landlady said that all she could find in any shop / wholeslaer was six of them. She was also getting low on baked potatoes but had plenty of sausage rolls. Its a strange situation that one minute you are wondering why its taking so long for the food to arrive then you remember that you want it to take ages. I managed three pints before they could no longer serve us another pint as we were finishing our food. The landlady was busy cooking in the kitchen down below whilst the other member of staff was getting flustered after being furloughed for a month but now having to deal with food orders, work the newly programmed till and trying to explain the new rules to some without anyone actually fully understanding what they should be but hoping that they dont get a fine by some offcial that thinks they are doing it wrong. As this pub is around two miles away I knew that I would require a call of nature on the way home so as my other half did not want another meal we used Sainsburys loos rather than Spoons which was still very quite at around 7.30pm. Today we were going ot do the 45 minute walk ro our local brewery but its going to rian most of the day so I will probably stay in the shed. We may get a chance Saturday if the possible meet up of old model railway club friends doesnt happen . The friend organising it cant get hold of the pub we use, to see if they will be open and have suitably covered and warm outside seating. They have been doing very nice pizzas since lockdown 1. 17

Having zoomed into Dr Eldest Herbert last night he is busy job hunting. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Morning, a rather chilly feeling 4c and gently raining, so no walk after dropping Mrs H to her bus. I have to go shopping later so will get a walk then wet or not. I'm pleased Chris's procedure went well, and that the BoDs appear to be doing OK, and sent supportive thoughts to Mick and his big Bruv. Anybody else too, in need of support, it is here in mind if not physically. A day of housework beckons, some dust has been spotted by she on high, and there's washing to do, change the bed.....how did we find time previously? It's only been 4 months! 3 2

For me it sets off a lot of horrible side effects. It can also rip your stomach lining to shreds. I took Voltarol and then Naproxen for many years as I have dreadful lower back pain that the spinal consultant tells me he can't fix but the medication relieved it. I did suffer some of the side effects though as despite making sure I only took it with food and also taking Omeprazole as a stomach lining protection, I twice had quite bad acid reflux problems. My GP insisted that I had kidney function tests every six months and all was OK until I had a TIA last August, at which stage the neurologist told me to stop taking the Naproxen. To be honest I'm not sure now why he said that but the GP agreed and it's three months since I last had it. The downside is that my back trouble is very bad again and getting going in the mornings is a slow and painful process. I really must contact the GP again to check on exactly why I'm off the Naproxen and if anything else can be done. I'm glad that Chris's procedure went well and fingers crossed for the outcome. Also thoughts and prayers for the BoDs and for Mick's brother. Let's hope that the vaccine rollout has the desired effect on all our lives. Popular Post Robert
Morning All, Thought it was about time I dropped by again. Best wishes to everyone, and especially, Chris, BoD and anybody else that I have managed to miss in my quick skip through the previous couple of pages. Weather wise, it's pretty gloomy and occasionally wet. The temperaure is typical for the time of year. We actually had some snow on Tuesday morning. Not a huge amount, but enough to necessitate clearing the pavement. Thankfully we are all healthy. Three pupils in Thomas' year at school were tested positive last week, so the whole year were sent to be tested on Friday. They had to quarantine over the weekend and got their results on Monday. Thankfully, everyone else in the year (including Thomas) were negative. Have a good day everyone... 14 1
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning all, severe frost here(well it is being so close to the coast, we don't usually do this cold this early in the winter), pond is frozen, so may go and remove some ice in a bit. I too have lower back problems, 3 discs have basically gone and I am working bone on bone as it were(I'm also 2 inches shorter than I used to be, no knee cartridges either, removed surgically). I don't take any medication as I am already on tablets for an enlarged prostate along with esomeprazole and still manage to be growing polyps in my stomach. I use a back support a bit like a weight lifter belt when out and about(it's actually made for fisherman by Snowbee), both supports the back and keeps it warm which helps, I also use Deep Heat as required and a lot of positive attitude, it's not stopping me from still going out fishing and hill climbing.
Popular Post jonny777
Dull and misty here in North Somerset. And it is raining too. Not much to be done today. Being Tier 3 means lockdown hasn't changed much except local shops are open. Encountered a very tame squirrel in the back garden as I went to top up the fatball feeders. It tried to stay as close to its food source (the residue from said feeders on the ground underneath) as possible as I approached, but eventually opted for a position on the garden fence in order to keep an eye on what I was doing. On the subject of school, I am amazed that my grand daughter has had almost a whole term at school (year 2) without being sent home because someone has tested positive for the virus. Eldest son has a new job with a freight forwarding company. I know nothing about those kind of logistical operations but I'm sure it will get busy as Brexit trade chaos looms. More slide scanning would appear to be the order of the day, with occasional glances at the Uk Snooker. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Good morning everyone Another dull and wet day here in the northwest of England, so any sort of outside activities are a no no. So it’ll be back downstairs to continue paint removal from the cellar walls. I’m also among those who have back issues, like tiger above, I have 2 discs that are rubbing together, it was the treatment for that that my prostate cancer was discovered, as the pain killers I was being prescribed just weren’t working. My back is currently pain free and I’m on no medication for it at all, but in the 8 years since the diagnosis I’ve lost just over 2 stone and I’m generally physically (and mentally) much fitter that I was back then. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian 13

BoD and Mrs - hope you are well on the way to recovery. No m88d888g for ages ... and just heard that Granddaughter's best friend's sister has tested positive ... that could open a can of worms. Normally have a tree and decorations up by now but think that as we will be on our own - first time - we will only have a small tree. Hope young Herbert secures a new post soon. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 Morning all. It is overcast and has just started raining here . Our groceries should be coming soon. No sprouts but the kale we ordered has been substituted with baby spouts! No parsnips either but we will be getting carrots instead in addition to the carrots already requested. Not a problem, we like carrots. I like carrots more than sprouts, kale or parsnips but Aditi is keen on eating a selection of different colour vegetables each day. We had another newspaper delivered today. I phoned the newsagent and she will collect it and deliver to the correct address. It isn’t anywhere particularly near here. The incorrect paper is always a Daily Mail which wasn’t what we used to have delivered anyway. We need an occasional paper to wrap round some food waste before putting it in the compostable bags for the recycling bin. If they keep leaving papers I may have a source. My car is showing “low battery, start engine”. I hope the journey to and from Canvey Island this afternoon will clear the message. It is my regular overseas trip for blood tests , The change of dose of one medication requires a check on liver and kidney functions . I suspect all will be fine but nice to be monitored. The heart failure clinic appointments are visits to the clinic in Southend but very Covid secure. The rehab clinics are by phone, fortunately I haven’t been asked to Zoom! Blood tests are still in person! My nephew started his first job as a fully qualified GP during the current pandemic. So his introduction to general practice had been very different to his years of training. Have a good day. Tony 15
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Sainsbury's blotted their copybook today. Five freezer items missing from delivery. To be fair that's the first real problem we've had with them so will accept the multitude of apologies and forthcoming credit with good grace. The missing items were just to top up the freezer so can wait until next week. One case of beer is now out for delivery, the other is now coming tomorrow but at least they've told me. I don't do Naproxen, we fell out big time many years ago. Like TB I've shrunk over the years and am now a good inch and a half shorter.
