Rarely do I not find any of them interesting in some way, bar kickball, but that's just me. Also the international aspects when members from all sorts of countries drop in giving a different aspect on many things - leaving politics very much out of it - but it is interesting to read a different take on some things. Sadly where I moved to a couple of years ago has no clear horizons and there are two bl@@dy high-mounted LED streetlights flooding the front and rear of the property. I like 5kK colour temperature, but the intensity can be too much. My next door neighbour has a motion-sensitive security light that lights up every time a cat/squirrel etc walks along his fence. Robbie (see avatar photo) was quite good at home but when out had the ability t9 find sources of snacks. He didn’t even have to see them. We did not dare let him off the lead of people were picnicking. We were terribly embarrassed when arriving at a local park, not really the sort of place where people picnic, Robbie just ran from the car park , across an out of use football pitch and leapt over a family having a very traditional picnic , rug, thermos flasks, hamper. As he jumped he had stolen a salmon sandwich as it was in between the woman’s hand and mouth. As I reached them Robbie was sitting finishing the sandwich a few feet away. I immediately apologised, and offered to replace the food. However the woman was most amused. She said they had wanted to give their girls a picnic experience and they were having a memorable one, her husband had been stung by a wasp, they had just had a dog ( a really cute dog, they thought) steal a sandwich. After that I always looked to see if I could see anyone eating before releasing him for a run. Once when Aditi was walking Robbie , he lurched sideways to retrieve a chip someone had dropped. Maybe 10kW arc lamps by how bright they are. After 11 when they go to bed and the street lights are off the sky is quite something here. I bought bedroom curtains which have a black out lining. I spent some time deicing the car, inside and out ,this morning and then went to the health centre/hospital in town for my blood test. For once I was able to park, after I had managed to get along the drive to the second part of the car park. The drive is two cars wide and has double yellow lines on both sides but everyone parks on the left hand side yellow lines and no one bothers. Surprisingly it works as the drivers are generally very polite. It is on the health trust's land so the lines don't mean much. I checked in on the computer terminal as usual and had just sat down when the nurse called me in, ten minutes early. She even managed to get my blood first time which is quite unusual. The I went to Betty's 100th birthday event. It was on all day so that not too many people would be there at the same time. She had a card from King Charles which pleased her. I had a good chat with her and met several other members of her family and friends - as Mum was her neighbour I usually saw her if she was in her garden so didn't know most of her friends and family. I got back home in nice time to get my lunch, then I lay down as standing in the morning meant that I had some pain. Since then I've done a bit on the model, caught up on e mails and read a magazine. I also cleaned and refilled the bird feeder and had a look at the garden, there are some crocuses in bud and the hellebore will be out soon. Today will be a repeat, no need to head out and definitely no reason to attempt avoiding frostbite just for the sheer excitement of it 😮 Work heating up (at least here's heat there!!) as we're into year-end and the ominous "auditors" rearing their ugly heads. Always adds to the excitement of year-end/audit reporting. Other than that, staying warm is top priority. Work at the rental property completed, a shower having been installed in the upper level bathroom, all that's left is touch-up paint following the install. Now we just wait for the rental market to pick up post-holidays. Weather another COLD morning prying the newspaper from the frozen path, -17c and sunny, -13c the forecast high. Popular Post Darlington_Shed Posted January 17 Popular Post Share Posted January 17 Part of my problem with retirement astronomy/astrophotography is that the retirement plan involved a relocation to somewhere with decent dark skies. Instead, Mrs Shed is still borderline workaholic and we'll be resident in west London for a few years yet. So we have central London skyglow a few miles to the east, Heathrow airport skyglow a few miles to the west, we're right under the Heathrow flightpath, and surrounded by neighbours with security lighting (which, BTW, makes not a jot of difference to your chances of being burgled or having your car nicked). Of course, those things are only a nuisance on the 10 or 12 nights of the year that don't suffer thick cloud cover or some form of precipitation 🙂 23 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
