westerner
Started on the layout again this afternoon, won't bother with photos at the moment as all you will see is bits of wood with weights on. I'm laying in other layer of cork (2mm) this time covering the point operating mechanism. In the next couple of days I will make a list of stuff I hope to get at Stevenage. westerner
I've been working on the steps down from the footbridge. The first time I've worked with brick plasticard. It was painted with cream acrylic and then it was wiped off immediately which left the mortar lines and the bricks were shaded with pencil crayons (a mid brown). The steps came from a Metcalfe footbridge kit. It still needs some work, but I'm reasonably satisfied with it. The photo is where it will be on the layout give or take a mm or two. The sides of the platform, still not fixed were done the same way. More photos in the Cameo thread Edited January 31, 2018 by westerner
westerner
I've completed the retaining wall on the right side of the layout as looked at by spectators. The white unpainted as yet is the staits/steps from the staff car park. again more photos and text in my cameo layout thread.

westerner
For those of you who have not been following the Louville Lane thread in the cameo competition section here is an update. Two more buildings. The back of the extension to the Station Hotel and the engine shed.
westerner
Spent the weekend building the Knightwing re-fuelling point To make sure the pipes were controllable I insert some thin brass wire down the tube therefore enabling me to able to cover the pipe as I wished not the way it wished. After taking photos of it on the layout I noticed a lean to one of the stand pipes and the roof, it is being dealt with as I type.
westerner
I found these two B&W snaps amongst Frank drakes collection. He obviously slipped out of his ware house to take a couple of snaps of the Lane.
westerner
Decided to put some unbuilt kits on the upper part of the layout to see how they would look. The large brick building is likely to be altered slightly.

westerner
Over the last week I have been fabricating bits for the overall roof of the upper area, that will sit on the back arches. At the moment the trusses are blue-tacked into place to give me some idea of how it will look. Tomorrow I will order some canopy brackets from York Modelmaking. The next job will be to paint everything before finally glueing things together. The trusses and supports are made from various evergreen products.I quite like the way the shadows fall that I'm almost tempted not to have a roof, but I think I will. It will be a part glazed roof a bit similar to the one I had on the train shed at Kingsbridge Regis
