67A
Over the weekend I have been busy working on the (steam) loco shed replacing the old Superquick brick paper with SE Finecast English Bond Plasticard Yesterday evening I revamped the 'gaffer's' office bay window structure and will post photos of this later At the York show York Modelmaking had their stand so I bought 3 packs of the roof slates (same as I used on DENT) ready to tackle the saw-tooth roof area once the main detailing on the building is complete. On the way back from York we called in at the East Lancs Railway for an hour to fine a class 45, class 47 and the converted Hunslet running, will post pics on my DENT thread later today.
67A
Hi all, Had a busy weekend working on the MPD building This was the position last week This was the old 'quick fix' annexe section added which I intended to change soon after it was made...……….that was 7 years ago! I decided to split the annexe into two sections this time This will be the staff entrance Once all the windows are in position the facing brick is clamped on in order to mark out the apertures Held up to the daylight just a quick pencil line does the job Brickwork added plus cills and lintels, windows given a 1st coat of MR crimson The two buildings comprise on the left a stores entrance and loading bay (large aperture) which will have sliding doors, double window is the dreaded foremans office followed by the signing on office. The second building is a toilet block. General undercoat applied and window frames have 1st coat of crimson Thin undercoat to almost all new brickwork, I don't want to overfill the mortar lines at this stage. Still lots to do so keep looking in guys. 3
67A
Almost missed these! Most of the new brick now painted with basic brick red, much more detailing to do during the week guys!
67A
Hi all, Been busy on the MPD building and roadway this week This side has had several detailing touches to the brickwork to lessen the overall brick red look, also all the roof vents and chimney have been removed in readiness for renewal of the roof slates The inside now has plasticard brick in place of the Superquick printed The annexe areas are taking shape I decided to replace the printed brickwork on the other side with SE Finecast Plasticard even though its probably never going to be seen, here its had its 1st coat of Brick Red Its easy to see the difference the brickwork toning down makes when comparing the annexe to the newly painted main building Inside the walls are now Plasticard lined awaiting a coat of white paint to the upper with a black area around 12mm from the ground This section of roadway has had a complete rebuild by removing the Metcalf printed cobbles and replacing them with SE Finecast cobbles which have a built-in camber with 0.040" styrene strip under along the centreline, there are also a pair of 0.030" and 0.020" leading to the gutter just to keep the shape. The white area in front of the monument will be a small garden area Looking closely you can spot the drain grids in the gutter After just a couple of colours applied it certainly needs more detailing, only about 6 more foot to do on the other boards! That's it for now guys. Edited May 5, 2019 by 67A
67A
Hi all, I'll be going to the Derby show tomorrow by train for a change! I actually worked in the building the show is housed in, its a listed building as I believe it was possibly the first railway roundhouse originally constructed as a loco shed for the Midland Railway, in my day it was the Crane Repair Shop in Derby Works and I served part of my apprenticeship there, fabulous timberwork in the roof area which is often featured in the likes of Bargain Hunt and Flog-it. The straight annexe room used to be the Millwrights Shop and I also worked in there carrying out general factory maintenance, happy days...……..erm!
67A
Hi all, Went to the Derby show and was very pleased with the layouts and the trade support, well worth a visit if still considering. Will post a few pics tomorrow once I download things.
67A
Hi all, Carrying on from my Dent thread due to upload limit we move onto a layout called 'Hyde Lane Servicing' which is 'O' gauge DCC Sound, very impressive! Another 'O' gauge showpiece was 'Kirkwood' again DCC sound Now to my favourite at the show 'OO' gauge 'Charwelton into the 80's' which had plenty of action and some fabulous trains, sadly travelling by train restricted our time available so actually only saw about half of the storage yard pass through. And as luck would have it, I noticed the camera setting had slipped!!!! The final layout I got a couple of overall shots of was another Southern affair ' this time its P4 scale and called Sidmouth, fabulous modelling. On the way home changed at Crewe and managed to capture this rescue 57 57307 'Lady Penelope' That's it for the Derby exhibition. Regarding the layout itself, I have suspended work on the loco shed as I have a masterplan brewing to renew the glazed/timber sections of the sawtooth roof but need to wait till the end of the month to see if it all transpires, if it does I'll have another string to my bow and life just may be a bit easier. The roadway continues Old Metcalf cobbles removed and continuing to lay the SE Finecast plastic type, all looks a bit rough at present but a coat of paint or two will transform things. The strips seen below the cobbles are to form the camber .040" in the centre, then .030" each side and .020" nearest the gutter. I'm in two minds whether to install the tram lines or not, time will tell! That's it for now. Edited May 20, 2019 by 67A blurred photo
67A
Hi all, If you look back at the last post I mentioned I had an upcoming masterplan, well I attended a Laser Cutting and Etching course on Thursday and Friday and produced a couple of test pieces on the Thursday one just a general window to get to grips with the software then I created a template for the engine shed roof windows I am currently refurbishing. This was my first effort which I done in paper simply to avoid wasting materials. I took it home on Thursday night then refined a few points on Friday and produced these The old shed building had seen better days and I was surprised the window sections lasted this long giving the thin Plasticard strip used for the glazing bars, so today I began the roof rebuild in earnest... Firstly I removed all the glazed and boarded areas Followed by the slated roof sections This was the scrap pile! A thorough cleaning of the roof bars and walls which have certainly stood the test of time with no failures anywhere. Next my favourite medium for building and carcase - Perspex was used for both faces to maintain strength and rigidity The new window sections being prepared but not yet fitted This shows the new frames placed in position to give an idea of improvement, the writing is just the protective laser cutting film. The roadway which I have also been working on is now almost complete but I forgot to photograph it - next week eh! The laser cutting and etching course I attended was at Shore Cottage Studios and was a fabulous two days and the best money I have ever spent on education! I do intend to start a niche modelling service once everything is in place so keep an eye out guys. Do look in on my Dent Station thread for updates there e.g. new loco's added to the fleet courtesy of birthday presents!!!! 5
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted June 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 7, 2019 Great work on rebuilding the shed and impressed by your cobble road work too. Would you be able to let me know what the problem was with the Metcalfe paving sheets as I was considering using them myself. Cheers Tony

I found the Metcalf sheets to be too shiny and obviously they had no 3D effect with them being just flat card, they were of course much quicker as it was simply cut and paste. I have had an extremely busy weekend and done no modelling so have not got round to posting the finished roadway as yet but I will do so next week sometime. I have been working over the week on the roof and that will also be coming together next week.

67A
Hi all, Apologies for lengthy absence, I've simply had a very busy few weeks with all manner of changes taking place seemingly everywhere I turn. Outside the garage I have built a timber and polycarbonate roof structure to provide enough cover to set-up my Bermuda Road MPD layout for testing prior to attending the Poynton exhibition in September. The garage has now been reorganised to locate the new laser cutter machine and I'm currently attempting to master all of the new skills required in order to work the machine, the software being the biggest hurdle I must admit. The MPD building has had to take a back seat with all the work going on above and the repositioning of the fiddleyard my Dent layout due to the arrival of the laser cutter but it's almost finished so will post photos when it is.
67A
Hi all, Sadly not a lot to report this week, I have set the layout up under the canopy but its rained all weekend so got little work done on it. I managed to electrically test the main frontage section before it got too inclement and all is well. I have been very busy on the rewiring of Dent's fiddleyard alterations and things are progressing well there. The only thing I have managed to do was some more slate renewal on the MPD roof but it is a very boring mundane task it has to be said, still it certainly has improved the overall look. There is only the final section to finish off before adding the smoke stacks, office chimney and barge boarding etc. That's it for now guys.
67A
Hi all, Just a note to say that most of the updating work has now been done in readiness for the Poynton show in a couple of weeks, the MPD building refurb took much longer than anticipated but it does look pretty good I must admit. I did want to update the housing and other non-railway items but time is against me. All the electrics have been tested and are now (for the time being) faultless, there are some annoying items which have got damaged simply by protecting the layout whilst it has to suffer being set-up outside under a canopy as there is no room in the house or the den. I do hope some of you can make it to the Poynton show near Stockport on September 14th/15th and just say hello when you see us, I'll be the one with the furrowed brow! Haha.
67A
Hi all, All the preparation on Bermuda Road is now done for the Poynton show next weekend, I have installed some Kadee uncoupling ramps but I'm not fully convinced they are the best option so will be taking along a selection of tension lock fitted stock just incase. The final item to check was the backscenes and I had hoped to update these but time was against me. Below are some photos minus the two loco depot buildings which I have packed away safely, starting at the Diesel depot we'll work our way around. Diesel depot with fuelling tanks prominent Main street leads to the factory entrance The triangle reversal road (timber strap is to support cover) You can see the triangular route clearly here Looking toward the Diesel depot Looking toward the Steam depot The 'Finlay and Son' engineering factory is prominent on left Oil tanks will not be stabled here at the show!!! The depot loading dock Lines leading to the sidings and coal stage in addition to the entrance/exit routes Coal hole and ashpit Busy road scene Factory gates receiving a repaint The arrival road approaches from the tunnel Quieter end of town allows time for reflection Diesel depot interior will hardly be seen at the show View along the main street On the far right are housing, a church and school. This void area to the right is giving me sleepless night trying to think of a suitable filler scene. That's it for now guys, hope to see some of you next weekend. 6
RMweb Premium AdeMoore Posted September 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 8, 2019 Looking ace Mike great photos. As for the filler how about Scalescenes for inspiration. More factory/warehouse with boiler house chimney etc etc. Hotel! Cheers

Cheers Cheers Ade, Thanks for the thoughts on the filler, it will probably be something along those lines but I want the viewers to be able to see the diesel depot so any high structures need to be avoided to prevent any damage if the viewing public need to lean over for a better view. I am even contemplating a larger diesel depot in the void but that is major work so time will tell!
67A
Hi all, We had an excellent 1st day at the Poynton show, no major dramas to contend with as the layout ran very well and the viewing public appeared to be very satisfied with what they saw, several questions from the viewers were answered and one visitor in particular was back and forward noting down any locomotive changes on his phone, sort of 21st century train spotting of a late 20th century scene - IF ONLY IT WERE POSSIBLE eh!! Had a good chat with 'George T' of this parish who informed me Andrew P hoped to visit but could not, sorry you could not make mate. Oh well here we go again just leaving for today's adventure!

Hi Mike, Glad day 1 went well for you, hopefully day 2 will be the same, it's a shame things got in the way, and it looks like I'll never see BR in all it's glory as it looks like I'll be moving to the South Coast in the coming Months. All the best and have a good Show mate.
67A
Cheers Andy, It was a hectic weekend and all three of us were wore out by getting home time and then had the layout to get out of the van, still its all good fun............I think! Hahaha. I'll post some photos at some point once I download them. I hope all goes well for you down south mate, take care and look after yourself.
67A
Hi all, Better late than never, I have finally got around to uploading some photos from the Poynton show, strangely many images are saying they are too large to upload and when I use my 'Pixresizer' program it says they are too small! I detest technology. Anyway I hope they give you a feeling of the day. It was nice to see 'George T' of this parish who came by a few time to spend a little while chatting with us. General overall view of the layout frontage The triangular return section with the diesel depot in the background The steam depot features here with the large engineering factory above, the staff push-pull is in the loading dock, this is a brass kit and is superb Eclectic mix of ex:LMS and ex:LNER on shed The coaling stage and sidings showing the staff busily clearing up the spent ash The diesel depot plays host to a full house of pre-TOPS blue diesels with the exception of the 08' John and Peter were in charge of the Diesels so I'm taking no flak haha.
