jamesham
Has anyone ever seen a drawing of Barnstaple Junction B Signal Box? I wonder if any sources such as past editions of Railway Modeller might have articles on the building. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, James Ham. RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 29, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2010 For info it was abolished in 1971 Is this it ? http://disused-rlys.fotopic.net/p36602236.html That's the location, Dave, but there was a more recent box latterly than the one in your linked photo, IIRC (but still dating from LSW or SR days).... RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted November 29, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2010 According to Middleton Press's "Branch Lines to Torrington", the new B Box came into use in 1924, although it was called Barnstaple West until 1949. As CK says, the site was the same, but sadly the pic in the MP book has a train passing in front so only the roof is visible. Interested that Beast's link quotes the vintage photo courtesy of John Law. May be the same John Law who has a very good photo site on railfan.net, with more than 4k pics. He used to be a colleague at Grove Park in the '70s.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 30, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2010 There is a picture which shows one end of 'B' 'box in Middleton's 'Exeter to Barnstaple' volume. From that view it looks to be a fairly standard LSWR style design although a bit lower than normal.
