Thanks for the heads up on this one Ant. Whatever you might think of Portillo the politician, and I gloated when he lost his seat, he does do an excellent job on these programmes. I was pleasently suprised by his easy manner and genuine enthusiasm. Until the first series, and an article in Steam Railway magazine, I had no idea how instrumental he was in saving the Settle - Carlisle line. My oppinion has now changed, and I now admire him as a presenter and the ideal man for this programme.

Cheers, Mike

I agree 100% with Mike J. Portillo has emerged as an excellent tv presenter and not just in this vein but also in other work he has done for tv since he was 'let go' by the electorate. Well worth watching just for his professionalism in his new found role - oh, and because of the subject matter in this case.

A good start to the series, but the best bit so far has been the bloke in the background of fridays episode, about 10 mins in Portillo is sat in a highly decorated station(I can't remember which) when an elderly man walks past very slowly and humorously, and fantastically under an 'express' headboard!

Yes. So is series 1

Thanks I saw some of Series 1 including the S & C and its infamous continuity error.

Watched up to Godstone (I was only really interested in biuts near Brighton as thats nearer to where I live). Nice to see some familar places that I go on or past most of the time like the Ouse Valley Viaduct and the sidings at Three Bridges

It's great that the production team have taken on board all the complaints about the continuity throughout Series 1. This series has been so much better in that regard. Portillo really is an engaging presenter.

Definatly true but the number of trains leading with tailights is truly amazing! It must be a surprisingly common occurance ;)

Saw Last nights' episode,

and have to agree that it was a good one!

Politicians may have a certain effect on my feelings / attitude

but Mr Portillo has certainly won me over!

As others have already said, he's a good presenter,

with nice casual attitude and what seems to be a genuine interest in the subject.

Also I feel he engages well with anyone he meets on his travels.

Thumbs up to him re his part in saving the S & C.

It's a great series - it isn't just about the railways,

there's plenty of related history in there too.

It has made me think about visiting places I

hadn't previously considered.....

Now for that next Julia Bradbury series...... ;)

Did anyone spot the Virgin Thunderbird pulling a steam loco? It was an overhead shot approaching Wrexham I think, a couple a days ago. I'll try and find it on Iplayer again.

Of course it could have been archive footage.
