Bachmann Polybulk wagons

Thanks for the tip, but it does sort of illustrate my point that it shouldn't be this hard to find stock so soon after a model is released!

There was actually more than one retailer at Model Rail Scotland that had stock of these wagons, albeit I'm not sure that there were any retailers who still had all three versions.  As Matt has said, JD Models had dozens of the weathered version: I bought one myself.  Cheltenham models were selling the oldest livery variant, but that wasn't the version I wanted.  I can't remember who else had them.  It doesn't seem like its that hard to find a retailer with remaining stock even if some have sold out.

Regards

David

The Bachmann site says they are out of stock that is all. I am sure more will be arriving soon, the same thing happened when the BAA wagons & the OTAs were released. I have found when they are not making anymore they remove the listing from their website.

Let's be real here, they can only make so much of each product at a time and still try to maintain a fully stocked catalogue of goods.

In any event, it seems that the models are, actually, still available from some outlets and other RM Webbers have given you several steers as to where you might get them.

It's starting to look like you're determined to get cross about this, no matter what help you get!

cheers

No, I'm not cross, not really.  It's only a model wagon after all, hardly significant in the grand scheme of things.  And I am grateful to people pointing out various suppliers.  But it's the unweathered TSL variant I'm after, and no-one seems to have that one in stock.

It was just my opinion that manufacturers are missing out on easy profit by making so few of these items that they sell out within a few weeks.

Regards

Mal

Do you know when this picture was taken?

I presume those Grainflow wagons are the longer bodied version, but that VTG tanker is another wagon that appeals to a ferry van fan like me :-)

Hi Mal,

Yes. I took it on Feb 1st 1988.

Out of interest, where was this taken? Outside of the Dover area, I can't think of many places where the Grainflow and Polybulk (NACCO, I think, in this case) wagons were seen together. Might it have been around the Cardiff area, when the Grainflow wagons worked to the mill at Barry docks, and the VTG/NACCO wagons to Dow Corning at Cadoxton?

Yes, and at the front of the train it looks like the Grainflow wagons I am interested in rather than the Polybulks produced by Bachmann.

My instant reaction was an eastbound departure from Cardiff Central. Didn't even have to think about it..

It was the Brush Type 2 that threw me; virtually unheard of when I lived in South Wales.

Yes. The train is heading east out of Cardiff, and if my memory serves me correct after all these years, it did appear from the Barry lines direction. Therefore I think that Fat Controller is correct with his Barry Docks/Dow Corning starting point.

Those NACCO Polybulks are still used for silica traffic to Dow-Corning; there was a train with a few of them, along with a load of 20' top-loading containers, at Frethun yesterday.

:offtopic: Careful, Sir!  I haven't heard one called that for at least 54 years now!  That sort of talk can give folk ideas about one's age!

When the higher-powered ones were introduced, taking them into the Type 3 bracket (and weren't there even trials with a pair at 2000hp - type 4) some of my spotting pals wondered if they would be known as Brooms ( big brushes). Oh, those were the days, shiny new dark green diesels everywhere except on the tram-car railway south of the Thames!)

Ok, read the whole of this site and cannot find anything quite like what I stumbled on yesterday... take a look... here's a clue, Western, polybulks, china clay, for real.... put it on my facebook so hope this link works.... sharing as I don't want to infringe original copyrght! https://www.facebook.com/john.williamson.777701

I think this is what you mean http://www.redbubble.com/people/dd-images/works/6304840?fb_action_ids=621548737922761&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=feed_opengraph&action_object_map=%7B%22621548737922761%22%3A761350527216498%7D&action_type_map=%7B%22621548737922761%22%3A%22og.likes%22%7D&action_ref_map=%5B%5D  It's 12 Polybulks hauled by a Western.  I suspect it might be half of the 24 wagon export train.  Later it ran as two block trains of 11 (Maximum load for whatever was hauling it) and the odd two wagons coming on the normal Speedlink services.

  • 1 month later...

Popped out to my local model shop yesterday, A Oakes at Langley Green, just for some paint, glue and a couple of DCC chips. Usual story, you get there and decide to have a little browse any way. So browsing through the Bachmann wagons I suddenly spot the wording "Traffic Services" on the end of one of the boxes. Needless to say I spent more than what I intended but came home with this little beauty..........post-18515-0-60313800-1399825457.jpg

This is the second piece of good luck I've had with these wagons in the last few weeks. I picked up a couple in Bourton on the Water on an adhoc visit on a family day out.

post-18515-0-28735600-1399825759_thumb.jpg

It just goes to show that there's a few out there still lurking if you are lucky enough to find them. I think Oakes have a Traffic Services and a Polybulk variant left in stock if anyone's still desperate.

They really are a super model and fair play to Bachmann for producing them. Hopefully we will see some new ones in the not to distant future.

Just spotted the new rrp for these, £54.95.

Wild Boar Fell

As a comparison for interest, I ordered my weathered 38-425 in April 2013 from Hatton's for a guaranteed price of £23.  With the initial maximum discount of 15%, these will now sell for £46.71.

There are still some around, I picked up a couple of the yellow Polybulk ones from DC Kits at Wigan show on Saturday. He had 3 of the weathered TSL ones left too and one of the other stands had weathered TSL ones too
