For me, Orchard Road by RMweb's Mudmagnet - see http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/12930-orchard-road-tmd-br-blue/page__p__115380__fromsearch__1&do=findComment&comment=115380 for the layout details - was the layout I thought best in show, very nice scenery, restrained placement of scenic things around the layout, skips with believable contents, etc., though the 08 class seemed to move very slowly, slower than I recall at Longrock sidings anyway. A good, restrained, demonstration of DCC too.... (as I'm analogue, that's saying something!) Stubby47's 'Laterite & Co Ltd' was looking good, again some restraint on small scenic additions, though the Poppy's caught my eye! Unfortunately he was unable to find a pencil when I wanted to write down something, and that's with THREE stationary box files on his layout Deviot Dock was another China Clay layout, which seemed to OK, but I thought it would run a little smoother once they had cleaned some of the stray ballast out from around the point checkrails etc., I was intrigued with the Halogen bulb containers for the layout lighting, perhaps a few details could be posted here. Of course one of the problems at the Hayle show is the lighting, one small layout back in a dark corner had no lighting of it's own, when will they learn. Orchard Road with it's own lighting was in the all over glazed lean-to and there was a brief period of sunshine, bright and hot in that area. Penlee Junct's first outing didn't seem to create to many problems, though Paul seemed likely to loose some weight the way he was skittering about. You're right.It was inspired by several spotting trips to Par,StBlazey & Par Harbour,but especially one trip when my nephew & I stood & watched 'The Par Harbour Shunt' with a 66 trundling back & forth shunting the sidings within touching distance of the footpath. treggyman Posted May 30, 2011 Share Posted May 30, 2011 The lights are recessed ceiling lights as used in kitchen/living areas where surface mounted lights either are'nt suitable or won't fit.They are 12volt & require a suitable transformer to power them.The transformers are put in my 'Power Box' which means that I have all my mains supply for the layout safely in a separate sealed box nowhere near the layout. I bought them from a local hardware shop but I suspect they would be available from someone like B & Q or similar.I hope this answers your query. Incidentally the layout is actually called Deviock dock but for some reason has always been advertised as Deviot even though I do put the correct spelling on replies to invites. Many thanks, it was the fitting I didn't recognise, all the Halogen style lights I've seen are 'open' at the back, and minimum 4" clearance all round. My apologies over the spelling, I took it from the exhibition blurb, but Deviock it is now. Now, I would have gone for Deviock, because a very good friend of mine has a layout called Devynock (Sennybridge) although I think he's now tending to the Welsh spelling - Deffynog. kernowtim Posted May 31, 2011 Share Posted May 31, 2011 Went with my 2 young children to this show on Sunday,a good selection of layouts but most were far too high for my children to see (a common problem), they were facinated by 'Laterite & Co' and as they were given a chair to stand on were ok to watch for a while, they also liked the long N American layout & the TT trainset even though balancing on a chair was still difficult for them to see , Thinking now of making a small shunting layout to run my Bachmann 08 & dcc sound cls 25 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
