Also a quick spelling correction (sorry!), but "Teeside" is actually "Teesside". Your not alone in misspelling this, which must rank up there alongside Stansted Airport as being spelt incorrectly so often. Keep the posts coming Steve

I often wondered about the percentage of active locos at any one time. Well it was the weekend! It would be interesting to see a mid-week log. Certainly HA and Millerhill were pretty empty on a weekday except for re-fuelling and (in the case of HA) those locos in for exams Tony.
pH
Well it was the weekend! On a Sunday in August 1964, I went round Polmadie, Dalry Road, Haymarket and St. Margarets and saw a total of 62 Claytons on shed. (Plus another 3 actually out doing work.) RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted February 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2017 I had to go through five of Dad's spotting log books before I found him out and about on Monday 7th of February, 1955. Mondays were his usual days off, having been taking services on Sundays. On this occasion he headed north from Bath, via Gloucester and Worcester to Malvern Link and then back.

RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted February 8, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2017 How neat? My old spotting books were usually scrawled. Thanks. He wrote these up afterwards from his notebooks - none of which survive. He tried out a number of different scripts over the fifty or so years he spotted and recorded. RMweb Gold Downendian Posted February 15, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15, 2017 And on topic, 40 years ago today, at Bristol Parkway it was half term and was there all week. I remember this day (it's mum's birthday) it was bitterly cold, and we had to go home early after being turfed out of a warm Parkway by one of the porters. 45 007/008/014/024; 47 013/157/234/477/484/509; class 117 51309-59476-51324, plus route finding 122 TDB975023. HSTs also in abundance 253 002-004/006/013/015/019 but the sets were getting split up by then. Sadly no Westerns seen this week - the end was nigh. RhBBob
On this day in 1971, I was stood in the public space of a bank I them worked for, trying to explain to a distraught young lady, with pushchair and child, that she hadn't lost 3d (three 'old' pence) in the conversion to Decimal Currency. She just needed to find another one to make 2.5 new pence or 'p's as we called them !!

Must of been warmer there!

RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted February 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2017 On this day in 1957 Dad took a four day trip, from our home on Mendip, to Cardiff where his in-laws lived. This is day one - if you want you can have each day as they roll on - another ten pages!
