James
It has a few problems - Mick Moore wrote about it in a recent MRJ. This thread may contain a useful bit of background too - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/35874-building-a-stanier-mogul
mark axlecounter
wow never thought of doing that but i may use a 8f body or at least the boiler instead of rolling this brass kit boiler thank you for that info . mark
philbax
Have a look at this on ebay http://collectables.shop.ebay.co.uk/Finescale-/69830/i.html?Product%2520Type=Locomotives&_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A4332&rt=nc&_catref=1&_dmpt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1581&_pgn=
mark axlecounter
i have seen that body on ebay but i have made progress with the folcom kit i should have pics on in the next day or two . I have used a Hornby 8f boiler instead of rolling the brass one thanks to james with that info
mark axlecounter
this is the folcan brass kit with a Hornby 8f boiler on it better than rolling the kit one
Horsetan
That's very brave. Almost the same principles used by Comet in their own 8F kit - i.e. plastic body, etched brass + nickel silver, plus turned brass bits and whitemetal details.
mark axlecounter
it was that or roll the boiler and the smoke box is under scale and the 8f boiler is more detail than what i can do
Mike G
That's pretty good going for a Falcon brass kit...I'm amazed to see the smokebox door actually fitted, was there much fettling involved? Look forward to the rest of the build. Mike
mark axlecounter
it was not easy but the boiler idea was good thanks again to james with that thread the smoke box door was ok to fit no messing around just the right size I will be going on holiday on saturday for a week but when i am back i should have made more progress with it and hopefuly more pics aswell mark
mark axlecounter
well more progress has been done today the body is done as well as the tender just the motion and the lower part to do and more pics will be on the way
Horsetan
That's pretty good going for a Falcon brass kit...I'm amazed to see the smokebox door actually fitted.... The original Hornby 8F one could have been retained, as it has the right "look" about it, and he'd have got away with it too.....

Horsetan
Now this looks almost in the style of the Comet 8F kit - plastic body, and etched and cast everything else. Wonder if Comet might take this as a hint?

davefrk
Hi Axelcounter, I hope it's not too late but I feel I should tell you that you've somehow got the tender frames on back to front, the holes for the brake cross-shaft should be facing the front and the long slope should be at the back. An easy mistake to make I admit so I hope I caught you in time to fix it. All the best. Dave Franks. right the loco is near to the paint shop only a few minner detail left steps are on tender rails on and it has done 5x round the test layout light loco . and it has done a load test 5x round the layout with 8 Bachmann mk1s more pics will be on here after
