Bachmann class 47 148 "the model's detailing faults" & info needed

Hi I bought "very cheaply" one of the first releases of Bachmann Blue Class 47's, it is catalogue number 32-803 which is running number 47 148, now I know the problems of the cab windscreen rivets, these will be removed accordingly, but the other thing that intrigues me is the triple fixed radiator grilles on the roof fan moulding area, I have trawled through the class 47 website, but i cannot find a prototype in blue livery that run with these grilles..... does anybody know of one loco that did ? or is this a real dropped clanger by the manufacturer ?

Sorry if this has been asked somewhere else, but I have done searches but they have come up fruitless,

Many thanks in advance

Craig.

Craig, she's unique. 47148 ran in this livery with tri-grilles for a matter of months during the summer of 1975 between recieving blue (presumably at home depot - CF IIRC) and receiving Crewe works attention when she was dual-braked (and therefore received Serck rads).

There was an old thread on the previous RMWeb that discussed this.;)

EDIT: there were plenty of tri-grilles that received BFYE in pre-TOPS. 1536, 1547, 1558 et al - these can all be found on the Class 47 website livery section.

EDIT2: "run transition era - run vb Duffs"

Not unique Chard, but certainly relatively rare - Heljan's similar 47122 was also authentic AFAIK and there were also several pre-TOPS blue ones in 'standard' blue with central arrows, such as 1696.

I just want to dig up this old thread and share my research,

Ive recently acquired 4x 47148 shells and there burning a hole in my shelf.

Without wanting to change logo positions, and keeping it simple, examples ive found in the 47 site are:

1537/1552/1549/1623/1696/1723/1740/ 47147 & 47148.

But looking at the details, 47432 seems to stand out for all of a month.. renumbered a month prior to Air brakes being fitted.. was this a works discrepancy

?

47108 was renumbered 03/1974 but didnt get AB until 07/1976... though i cannot find any supporting pictures to suggest it had 3 grills until 1976 (though comparatively, 47148 was renumbered 01/1974 and wasnt AB until 01/1976)

Ive also found a picture of what looks like 47096 at Bristol Bath Road, defeinitely 3 grills.

https://peter749.piwigo.com/picture?/22897/category/266-class_47

It would fit, as it was renumbered 05/1974 and reciebed AB in 07/1976 also.

Current favourites are: (keeping one as 47148)

1549 (as it covered GE, LM, MML, ER in a short period in early 1970’s)

47096 WR influence

1696 (if not as 47108)

Or 47147

1696 for us

A smashing Chris Nevard photo....

We have also done D1725 but that needs a bit more work, numbers on cab side but logo behind each door - 1692 is another similar option currently appearing on this forum...post 8 in http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/7483-plymouth-16771/
