What's the red livery on the DMUs?

Hi Dudley

i presume that you are talking about the class 156 photo, its the Strathclyde PTE livery of orange and black although dependant on the light it could appear more of a reddish colour. Nice livery, i personally miss it.

Hi Claggy,

Re 47 517 on the Clansman - correct, the 11.00 Inverness to Euston on 28th June 1986.

By the mid 80's Perth had lost a lot of it's variety. AFAIR, passenger traffic was

Inverness to Glasgow/Edinburgh (usually 47's and early mk2 stock)

Inverness to Euston 'Clansman' (47/4 and mk1/2/3 stock)

Aberdeen to Glasgow (again 47's and mk2 - later 47/7 push pull)

Perth to Edinburgh (101 3 car unit)

Speedlinks operated from Mossend to Inverness and Craiginches and I believe a Freightliner still ran between Aberdeen and Coatbridge but dunno when it finished. The engineers yard to the north and the tippler to the south both generated some traffic but I think Dewars had shut by then.

Go back a few years (see Crossfells shots) and you can add in the Dundee to Glasgow services (mucho variety) and the Arbroath/Dundee to Perth locals (DMU variety) as well as additional freight traffic.

I dare say there a a few gaps but I hope this helps. I've a few pics of the area from this era so just let me know if you want to see anything in particular and I'll see what I have.

Hi Claggy,

Here is a pic of 37188 at Queen Street about to depart (take off) to Perth on the 1L39 18.03 FSX to Perth. The train was booked a class 27. There was also a 27 booked train from Edinburgh to Perth 1L35 dep 11.23 the same loco was booked to work 1T24 13.50 Perth Glasgow Q.S.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Peter,

Very atmospheric pics Crossfell5 :icon_clap:

The earlier Perth shots just made me dig out one or two images - very beautiful stretch of line.

Nothing to rival a split headcode 40 though I'm afraid :icon_e_sad:

Thanks guys.

Crossfell5 - lovely shots from a vintage year.

Millerhillboy, the Millerhill shot of 37112 was 30th April 1982 - the 26 in case anyone is interested is 26001. Some more Millerhill below.

To help those struggling to place the Millerhill shots, here is a comparison.

For attachment=5439:26028_Millerhill_1a.jpg

Same view on 5th of May 1989

y22trw.jpg

Then on 12th May 2005, yes it is exactly the same spot!!

y7ir9u.jpg

For attachment=5440:40168_Millerhill_1.jpg

Similar view sometime in 1990s

y2aa5s.jpg

Then on 12th May 2005, slightly further over the bridge, as all I would have seen was birch trees

y7irdg.jpg

Plenty more Millerhill stuff on my Fotopic site.

? Readum and weep

Not photos of the Scottish region as such, a couple of pages from my log book. The first one is from the last days of 37s on the West Highland. The others are when Scotrail ran out of sprinters in the early 90s. The 27s had long gone and the only passanger train you mite get a 26 on.would be the Cardenden loop out of Edinburgh.

Brought a load of photo's back from the UK last week to scan and had these sorted Sat, but then thought no point

uploading onto the old site!

Not sorted dates out for most yet, and the Cl26 is a bit poor but better than nothing I guess...

cheers

Keith

Super photos Keith of "real trains"

The "pug" 08 717 is at Inverness - see below for photo of the other side. Date late 80's ?

47 604 is on the blocks also at Inverness - the old NCL office block windows (used to work for them some years back) in the background that was in front of the goods shed - now long gone and replaced by a shopping mall - Debenhams etc

Regards

Ken

Hi guys,

An interesting day at Warley yesterday. XC excelled themselves with on time or even early arrivals and the show was very interesting for a first timer. Anyway I digress.....

A couple of more pics from the days of yore

I have started a gallery Scottish Region in the 80's - to gather some of the stuff together.- I hope you like it. (I know, I know no captions - I'll get there eventually.)

The engine shed is where the Morrisons is, they marked out the position of the tunrtable in the car park. I thought the goods shed was in Milburn yard? The site of Debenhams was an auction house and later, a car park.

Edit: the goods yard was next to the station:

Thanks Jamie.

Now, a question - probably the wrong place but here goes...

How can I add a caption to a gallery image that has already been posted? I can add a comment but a proper caption looks so much better.

In order to divert attention away from that, another pic for the 08717 fan club - this time in Sassenach territory :D

post-3695-12590169791678_thumb.jpg

I've added a couple more ScR 08 pics to my gallery.

Bruce,

Click on you username at the top right hand side, then select 'My Gallery' from the pull down list. In your gallery, click on the image you would like to add comments to then look on the right hand side at the image details box - there should be a Mod Options button - click on that and one of the options is 'Edit Image' select that to change the title or add a description.

  • 1 month later...

Ok After enjoying this Thread on the last and on this version of RMweb - time for me to throw in a few photos from long ago.

Hope the quality is up to standard (in all respects) Image, photography, subject and info.

I never new anything about which train, where it was going, or why (to me that was the fun - I never knew what was coming next) and I know nothing about wagons - hope something is of interest to someone.

This is a test - not sure if "my captions" will appear so

Photo 1 is 40 068 powering up Cowlairs Bank out of Queen Street 05.05.1980 - For the record...... the tower block in the background was demolished 6 months ago and then another two last month.

post-6993-12618537295483_thumb.jpg

Photo 2 shows 40 013 on shed at Eastfield in 27.04.81 - hiding round the side - maybe someone in England was looking for it.

post-6993-12618537588223_thumb.jpg

Two down - plenty more if they are of interest.
