Just back from holiday in SNCF land, had a quick squint but sorry Dave those damn trains kept getting in the way of the gubbins along the north wall!! The best of pretty poor effort below..

In the mid 80's Scr was 'donated' some truly awful junk which clattered around the Central belt masquarading as a public transport service. Hats off to those who kept them running.

Class 104 M53525 leads a ragtag collection on a Dunblane service. The old dear in the second window seems to be thinking "that'll be dismal" - she wasn't wrong..

Cheers,

PS I'm not too bothered about the quality if you have any more. The info I can get from the photos is all that matters. You could always post them on my layout thread if you'd prefer.

Hi All,

I have a slightly unusual request:

Does anyone have pictures of Scottish coaching stock from the 80s - more specifically mk2fs and mk3?

Am especially interested in the interior of these coaches as I'm painting the inside of a mk2f and want to try and get the seats in a proper-ish colour!

Thanks in advance :D

Stu,

If you mean the ScotRail liveried stock then they weren't reburbished until about 1990. Therefore the Mk2 air-con stock (Mk2D for the TSOs, mostly Mk2E for the FOs and Mk2F for the DBSOs) and the Mk3 stock all kept their original blue seating for second class and orange seating for first class.

The interior sides were off white for Mk2E, Mk2F and Mk3. The Mk2D stock had wood panelling by the windows and were blue below the windows, just like the pressure vent Mk2s.

Thanks for your quick reply Flood. Those are good descriptions of the coaches thank you. As I'm in New Zealand it's a bit difficult to get good information on some things :)

And I now realise it's a mk2e I have not the f

Cheers Peter.

Yes, Tom, more please. :D :D

Cheers,

Dave

PS Here's a question: Did a uniformly formed and liveried DMU ever visit Waverley in the 1980s??!!! My straightforward Bachmann blue/grey 108s are beginning to look distinctly "wrong".

Glad you liked them gents, hope you don't find the ones below to much of a repetition.

The ones at Glasgow taken while waiting for train back south, 19 March 1986. Ones in Edinburgh, 22 May 1985. More interested in buses at the time.

Hi Tom,

More great pics thanks,B) I am glad someone took pics of DMUs back in the 80s, I wish I had taken a few more myself.:( 27002 is Hellfire.

Dave, I am not sure about pics of 108s in the 80s but there is a nice one of an ex Chester based unit leaving Waverley early 90s on www.railcar.com the site has heaps of other pics of 108s plus all the other types, might be worth a look. It help me when I was doing research for my 108s.

Cheers Peter.

They sure are. Superb and priceless for me, thanks Tom! Looking at those early Mk 2s makes me think maybe I'll move mine up the "project list". A tatty roof or too might look rather "nice".

Peter, I have a photo of a blue/grey 108 at Waverley in 1987 (from Traction magazine). Apparently they were used there quite a lot during that year, although they may have visited at other times too of course. It had a headlight fitted (above the centre windscreen I think) but was otherwise a standard-looking 108 (3-car though if I remember rightly).

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,

That pic in Traction sounds like the one I saw on the railcar website, must have been earlier than I thought. I think your 108s look the part, you are going to have other units that you are planning to mixed up.

Bring on those tatty MK2s.:D

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter

Just had a look on www.railcar.co.uk (not .com by the way). It's not the same pic as the Traction one but it looks like the same set. The light was below the middle window not above and it was 1986, not 87 as I thought. It's a blue/grey 108 at Waverley though and that's good enough for me!

Cheers,

Dave

Two from me - locos again - sorry didn't pay much attention to DMU's back in the snorkel jacket days - but I did like these recent images posted here.

These two images are also in my Gallery page where I have a mix of images taken all over the UK

Thought these two would fit in quite well in this thread also.

27 209 has gone "pop" and been dumped out the back at Motherwell.

I recall a good few crispy 27's at Glasgow works and Eastfield - poor wee things got thrashed to

death on the Glasgow to Embra shuttles.

This is 13.10.81 which I guess was the end for 27 209.

A happier moment in the sun for 26 027 ( A Heljan one no less) passing a busy Mossend .....again on 13.10.81

Some great pics there, Tom - the Mexican Bean looks almost spectacular at Eastfield (spectacular and Eastfield in the same sentence!!!!????) I cant be the only one who would like to see some of the bus pics too !!?? (Tin hat on time :D )

On the subject on dmu's, after much faffing about I have finally managed to upload a short video to Youtube showing classes 101/4/5/7/20.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrIXx6a7MVs

Taken on an early Video8 camcorder the picture aint the greatest quality :( . Got a few more lined up but would appreciate your comments. Currently I use Premiere Pro V7 to edit and produce an avi which is then converted by Windows Movie Maker prior to uploading. I had great problems uploading via IE but, as much out of desperation, tried AOL and hey presto. Why ? dunno... I will maybe try a PPv7 avi file via AOL next time to see if the quality improves but your feedback would be welcome.

A still taken at the same time.

cracking vid bruce! don't worry about the quality, they look fine to me!

as has been said, the DMUs were certainly pick'n'mix weren't they?

for waverley west, i seem to remember if you wanted a single-class set, the most likely would be a 101, maybe a 107?

120s and 104s would seem to have been mixed in with whatever was going.

mind you, the end of the vid posted shows a 3-car 116 on the ECML, so who are we to say what's right or wrong? hahaha
