Pennine MC
There's a pleasing subtlety there Joe, with some nice contrasts between the mucky bits and the cleaner parts. I particularly like the blue Clayton.

RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted January 7, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 7, 2012 You have a nice touch - not overdone. I particularly like the selection of box vans which seems 'real'
RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted January 18, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 18, 2012 Excellent - this is the standard to which I aspire. One point tho - the CONFLATS would not have loose chain atop because there is insufficient side rail to stop them coming off - that's why they were built with chain lockers on the sides which were accessed through the floor. Guest 40-something
Thanks M.I.B, and I'll get those chains off before the next outing!

Guest 40-something
Thanks for the kind comments folks! I always work from photographs, not neccessarily of the exact loco. Basically what I do in weathering is first to mix up a right mucky concoction of leather brown/frame dirt, black and white paint, either enamels or acrylics, well thinned - Im moving more to acrylics these days though. I brush the mix on all over the bodyshell (or part of when using acrylics) and vertically wipe off as much as is desired using a cotton bud. This gives a basis for further weathering. I use MIG Black Smoke, Industrial City Dirt and Dark Mud powders on top of the base weathering to represent soot, ash and brake/road dirt. On top of this I use Tamiya weathering oils from the whole range to represent rust and oil etc etc. The Class 27 is the first loco I weathered, with the 4MT being the first steam loco I done. The 9F is my pride and joy though!
theoldmansminion
ilike the 9f as well, though as pointed out, i agree there is a great variation the levels of muck on each of the models great work!

Thank you! I do try keep the weathering different on all the models I do, the 9F is my favourite to date though! I have a couple of 4F's that are ready to be attacked, I plan to really go to town on them

Guest 40-something
I'll need to get up soon and see these wonders you're creating, Joe! Dave. Hi Dave The locos can be seen on EKMRCs Annan Road next outing (not sure when that is) or on Milton Street TMD which is currently under construction by a fellow club member and is preliminary booked for Perth in 2013. Although if I can convince the owner of Eaglesham (another club members layout) to run in BR rather than the norm Caley then they may be seen at Perth this year. Guest 40-something
Hi Folks With the wife away in Paris, I've had a few days to myself and I've completed the following loco's Hornby B1 4-6-0, denamed and renumbered to 61404, Ive not done the smokebox number as I'll be adding an etched replacement. Based on a photo of the prototype taken at St Margarets Shed in Edinburgh, strictly speaking it shouldnt have the electric lamp irons! The numbers are the larger Scottish Region numerals. Bachmann Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0, renumbered to 43141. Again the smokebox number will be getting replaced. I saw a photo of this loco in scrap condition at Polmadie Shed in Glasgow. It should be fitted to a tender with token aperatus but I've assumed its running with a different tender! Both still need Kadee's fitted, and the B1 needs a crew fitting. Thanks for looking!
