Bargain! For the record, the standard unpainted one is light grey, but surely even as a limited edition this is worth no more than a normal release? RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 4, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 4, 2013 This is collectors' market meeting modellers, sadly. What about this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Dapol-LTD-ED-BR-WR-LOCO-WATER-TANK-EX-GWR-6-WHEEL-TANKER-STOGUMBER-MINEHEAD-/370788595820?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5654b8f86c

I like the idea though, were these tankers actually used for drinking water? If so what was there exact purpose? Supplies for stations with no (clean) water supply or perhaps with camping coaches? (Not that I've ever seen a photo of one next to a camping coach) *Edit: Having read the description on the listing, I see that it was used for both purposes. Silly me! Il Grifone
There's only 1 missing part? Yes strangely - Described as the smokebox door, but really the whole boiler front and tank front as cut out in cardboard. The works are only push along and AFAIK don't include coupling rods. Obviously an even cruder relation to the Gaiety/JVM thing. They want about £23 too much for her IMHO! (There are a load of similarly overpriced Dinky Toys etc. - restoration projects are usually priced around a fiver...)
Il Grifone
Built and painted to a good standard ...allegedly. A Wills Kit on a Tri-ang 2-6-2T chassis (as it was designed for). It looks like someone interpreted the expression "Shake the box kit" a little too literally... Edited April 4, 2013 by Il Grifone

The GWR did build some tank wagons for the supply of drinking water, but whether any of these were used I don't know. The underframe would appear to be a bit overqualified for the function.
