This has been absolutely trashed:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326137753985

But there is more, the seller has another one that he has deliberately broken up to part out at eyewatering prices, the prosecution enters the following into evidence, the box alone he wants just shy of seventy sheets for it!!

After completely forgetting why I was looking for the HST with the milk churn, and, water crane, I found this:-

https://www.goodwoodscenics.co.uk/product-page/scrap-virgin-hst-125-diesel-locomotive-f3

this

https://www.goodwoodscenics.co.uk/product-page/scrap-hst-125-diesel-locomotive-f6

this

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1373691476/oo-gauge-scrapyard-class-43-125-hst?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details

They are sold out, but, the prices are astonishing. The guy with the HST's is Halden Yard, the rusty flock guy is 3 Seas Collectables. Unfortunately I couldn't find Mr. Wolf's HST with the water crane and the dubious guy with the milk churn. If anyone is interested, the post I'm on about is on the 22nd December 2022, at the bottom of page 1407, in this topic.

Me neither, but I got an offer all the same.

You're probably better off having a drive round the neighborhood and looking out for the stuff people leave on the pavement as scrap metal or free to a good home.

Or looting skips like some ebayers obviously do...

No, that's for the really rare stuff and in the minds of the type of person who uses such phrases, the viewer is legally and morally obliged to buy it, no questions asked...

At least those do appear, as far as I can tell on my postage stamp sized screen, to be a reasonable representation of how diesels fade and  weather if left standing for a long period. We'll leave aside the actual likelihood of seeing an individual HST power car in that state. The work does also appear to have been done carefully and probably represents a fair bit of time on the part of the maker, so the prices are somewhat understandable from someone charging their time at even hobby business/cottage industry rates. I wouldn't want one myself, but Rule 1 applies.

Certainly a bit different from dipping a GBL/Dapol/Airfix junkbox model in glue, then rolling it in dried tealeaves.

I assume that's a Wills Bodyline, or similar, kit on what, judging by the wheels, is a very elderly Triang Jinty chassis.

Friend saw a similar kitbuilt loco in a model shop in Kent, forty quid, I scared them out of buying it after saying it might not like their layout due to how bulky Triang wheels are 🤪

Where did this mania to drive up model railway prices come from?

From people who follow ebay listings - they see a genuine Hornby example and, as theirs looks vaguely similar...  Wolla! Price inflation!

No ok. They've found a genuine Hornby box for their sad little thing (Look, it fits the tray) and priced accodingly.  Mendacious Chiselleling at its finest!

Well, I've seen the Dingle tunnelmouth many times, halfway up the cliff face, and it looks NOTHING like that!!! 🤪🤪🤪

If it helps, I have, somewhere, a similarly ancient Triang chassis (it was under a warped, acetate(?) body, with open ended couplings) that someone rewheeled with 1970s Hornby wheels. It's practically finescale.

No, actually that probably doesn't help very much.
