EBay madness

How about this for a 'bargain' -

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item256c04baaa

Bought on RMweb Marketplace last week from a member for just £20...that's some mark up. Also seems to have done the same with a Hornby 56 and 50.

A fellow site member reported this and flagged it up for my attention. The member concerned is already on moderated status for 'attitude' and there was previous evidence of profiteering - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/13285-Bachmann-2-epb/page__st__400__p__489088&do=findComment&comment=489088

His access to the RMweb Marketplace has now been disabled as I agree that it is against the spirit of this community. I do not like to see a member being taken advantage of.

I think despite the many differences we have round here, this is one thing most of us can agree on.

Back on topic, is this really rare being last year's Skaledale? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3370f09263

The form of description this bloke uses drives me nuts, not to mention gives me a headache, by using huge 'shouty' script. I gave up trying to read it.

I would have thought it would be more difficult to find a buyer with £20k + to spend, than to find several buyers if he were to split the collection and sell each separately. He has sold items for much less in the past.

Go on Colin, you know you want them. 20k, drop in the ocean to a man of means

For a man of means perhaps, but not for me Tony!!

Anyway they wont run on my OO track.

I may be wrong about the year but I'm pretty sure they will still be on the shelves somewhere. Anyway, the key thing is it can't be that rare if it's a production item from within the last couple of years. Unless "my local model shop doesn't have one" makes it rare these days...

"Collectable 1961 Triang OO Gauge BookSeller Kiosk, Very Good Condition, for Sale"

(a ) It's Airfix (bog standard Smiths Kiosk)

(b ) £5.99 starting price is bit steep

(c ) £8.00 p&p is just taking the wee-wee

All from from trustable_honest_trader....

Thinking about it anything could be described as "collectable" - some strange folks collect their bodily wastes in plastic bags, for example

Considering the wagon is normally priced at around £13-£15 without postage and packaging these decals on them are mighty expensive

http://www.ebay.co.u...84#ht_992wt_698

cheers,

Lukasz

He has some other pricey stuff as well that's sold out in many outlets (though nothing (yet) like the levels of some of our favourite sellers). However, a new feature with this kind of shop.

Hornby (ex Lima) Bubble Car on ebay £84.99 BIN, P/P Free.

Or his ebid shop £77.99 + £4 P/P:

People are funny arem't they? This guy is selling quite a few limited items with a start price of 99p so all credit to him.

However, with this one he's started at £99.95. I don't know if it's worth it or not but could frighten a few people off.

Then he goes and puts all these in one lot for a starting price of 99p when he surely could make much more by listing them individually? Am assuming this will go to someone with spare cash who will split them and re-sell them for a quick buck?

It's actually from a few years back and seems quite popular on the s/h market. Unlike some of the chancers featured in this thread, £12 or so doesn't seem too outrageous!

Very rare GWR livery indeed....... And a very reasonable international postage at 20 pounds

Sierd Jan

When a British vendor, selling a British model, has the error of their ways pointed out by an overseas member, they really do need to try harder. It's not even the early crest! Some folk have a silly idea of international postage costs - they should look at the box-shifters' published rates to see what is reasonable.

How much???

Have I missed something?  Is this actually 'O' gauge with DCC sound fitted?

Cheers,

Will

No, if it was O gauge with DCC sound you could probably add a '0' (ten times the price)

Given that a sound chip tends to be well over £100 for anything and that the basic 66 goes for £80 odd, and that it has a certain "rarity" then the BIN price doesn't seem quite so silly. It is a BIN price and they do tend to be silly anyway. I have seen worse.

Thats true & one of the biggest offenders are the NRM, Enamel mug £6 + EU delivery £19.95. :O

Kenton, I agree completely but in this case I don't think the model does have sound, so it seems OTT :)

Cheers,

Yes absolutely right - don't quite know where I got the idea from ! I must say that I pass BIN only offers by as I think they are all a rip off. I still think ebay is for selling unwanted junk and that everything should start at a lowish starting price. If the buyers then want to get in a bid war for it then that is fine.
