RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9, 2012 66709 was repainted into a striking new Medite livery at the end of April, it then spent a few days in the NEC on display at the MultiModal 2012 show. It was returned to normal traffic on Saturday 05 May travelling down on 4L02 from Hams Hall but was removed at Peterborough (even though I was waiting for it, the cheek !). On the morn of 08 May 2012 I got news it head gone to Selby (where a lot of Medite goes!) and I mused it if was to be allox to 4L78 for it's first revenue service in the new livery. There was a dearth of information about this movement but eventually the news came through, it was on the train and was heading South, making good progress. I decided to head down to Westerfield to photograph it, the weather was good, bright but no sun, but sadly the sun came out (it's not ideal in the evening at Westerfield) making some of the shots less than perfect, but I don't do "trains are more fun in the sun" shots for magazines, I simply record events at various places, so I stayed put. Here's my selection of shots from the couple of hours I was there. The station is served by East Suffolk line (Lowestoft / Saxmundham) trains and Felixstowe trains, the Felixstowe trains use the "wrong" platform when heading towards Felixstowe as the crossover is on the Ipswich side of the level crossing. 66113 on 4L45, 09:35, Wakefield - Felixstowe South - Intermodal 156419 on 2D89, 17:09, Saxmundham - Ipswich 153322, Benjamin Britten, on 2R25, 17:28, Felixstowe - Ipswich 66721, Harry Beck, on 4M02, 17:20, Felixstowe South - Hams Hall - Intermodal 153322, Benjamin Britten, on 2R26, 17:58, Ipswich - Felixstowe The junction with the East Suffolk line The remains of the Felixstowe bay - to the left of the remaining platform. 156419 on 2D90, 18:13, Ipswich - Lowestoft The flashing light (LED) meaning the token is available. 170273 on 2D91, 17:08, Lowestoft - Ipswich 66533, Hanjin Express / Senator Express, on 0M73, 18:23, Ipswich - Felixstowe North 66587 on 4E64, 18:19, Felixstowe South - Doncaster (- Wilton) - freightliner 66572 on 4M92, 18:39, Felixstowe North - Lawley Street - freightliner 170273 on 2D92, 19:13, Ipswich - Lowestoft Ex Anglia Railways livery. 66709, Sorrento, on 4L78, 11:43, Selby Potters - Felixstowe South - intermodal (First revenue working in new livery)

RMweb Gold Trevellan Posted May 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9, 2012 Great pix as always Dave. However, a very unimportant looking junction for such a heavily trafficked route. And poor old Benjamin eh? A major contribution to musical history and someone decides to name a Dog Box after you.
eastwestdivide
So Harry Beck's diagram is on the side of a loco. Looks like it might be his original rather than an up-to-date one. I'm trying to picture a confused tourist consulting it as the signal turns green and the map pulls away. And I presume Britten's portrait is intended to look like it's been blown up from a badly-printed 1 inch square newspaper photo?

Looks like it might be his original rather than an up-to-date one. I'm trying to picture a confused tourist consulting it as the signal turns green and the map pulls away. One day I will get a close up of the map. And I presume Britten's portrait is intended to look like it's been blown up from a badly-printed 1 inch square newspaper photo? Something not modelled very often, a lot of the local scuds have them.
caradoc
It looks as if 66587 has its tail lamps lit, although hauling a train - Hopefully an optical illusion ?

Peter Kazmierczak
Looks a nice setting for a layout. Not sure about the livery on 66709 though.....

RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted May 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 10, 2012 Nice images, Dave - as said, it's amazing to think of the tonnages going through here; the combination of traffic, single line branch, wrong line working through the platform - a real modellers dream! And I presume Britten's portrait is intended to look like it's been blown up from a badly-printed 1 inch square newspaper photo? Reminds me of the "statue" (for want of a better word) of Tony Hancock in Birmingham, basically a big metal sillhouette with 'oles drilled through.... Fay Singpoint
The flashing light (LED) meaning the token is available. Nothing to do with the RETB. It just means the TPWS has been disarmed..
