Earl Bathurst
Hi I have been given some EM gauge roller gauges for building track but just double checking how to use them properly? I have the onces below in the picture, can you build all your point from these gauges? Thanks
BG John
I use 3-point gauges for point, and plain track, building. They give a bit of gauge widening on curves, and you can get them into places where a roller gauge won't go. I can also hold the rail down firmly and solder between the legs on the 2 leg side, at least with my bigger 4mm broad gauge gauges, as I haven't built EM track for years. I must dig out my EM gauges, as I'm making plans to use them.
brossard
My advice is to join the EM Gauge Society. Membership includes a comprehensive manual with instructions on making track, loco conversions and a lot more. There is a shop that stocks things the EM Gauge modeller will find useful if not indispensible. http://www.emgs.org/index.php John
hayfield
Earl Roller gauges are realy for straight sections, as on sharper radii you need 3 point gauges which automatically widens the gauge on curved sections. A wing rail gauge (flat piece of metal bat 1mm thick) is also very usefull in steeing the wing rails and the gap at thr knuckle. Also a check rail gauge which sets the check rail from the V (just in case the gauge has been widened
