Inglenooking... now known as Bute Street Goods

Hi Adrian,

Unfortunately not, I must have been looking after my

customers too well (everything has been well lagged/

insulated!).

Also the some of the jobs have been put off until the

weather changes because they involve switching off

and draining the heating system (too cold for that!)

Still I can get on with some modelling while waiting

for the phone to ring.

Good luck with the next stage, Jeff

Hi all, sorry for the lack of updates, and thanks muchly for the interest! I'm aiming to get back on track with this shortly. Some progress has been made on the layout, but last year was rather difficult for me ('annus horribilis' was the term I used on my - abandoned - blog).

I've been dabbling with bits and pieces though; I'll attempt to post some pics of what I've been up to before long.

I am very impressed with your layout - it is very nice!

For the space between the warehouse and the bridge I'd go for the sketch backdrop idea presented earlier - the other option with the low relief building will not work as there is just not enough depth available.

What are your plans regarding the area between the points and the front of the layout? It is rather largish ...

Best of Luck,

Christian

Hi Adrian,

Shameless bump I'm afraid,

but I was wondering how you were progressing?

Still waiting to see how you dealt with the gap to

the left of the who warehouse?

See you Monday, and you can be updated about

the minor flooding we had at the club!*

Jeff

Thanks for the nudge Jeff, it really is time I got my finger out and updated this thread... so here goes!

First up, I've made a start on a cassette fiddle yard.

The join is made using brass bolts with loops of phosphor bronze wire soldered on. It works but the alignment isn't automatic, so I'll need to make further changes. I'm thinking of using a pair of male/female dowels to create a more positive join. The sides are too high as well, so they'll be cut down.

Still, it does work, I can drive a complete train off the layout now.

I've also been giving some thought to the issue of the space by the bridge. As much as I like Neil's sketch, I don't think it will work as the perspective is not as it appears in the sketch.

The original low relief I tried was no good either, so I've started playing around with another oddment I had knocking around...

I think it works quite well. Any thoughts?

Obviously it's only a mock-up at present; something a bit shorter might work better, but the general look seems right to me.

I do like that factory building Adrian
Nice neat work on those cassettes too

I think it's all looking really good
One thought - and you've probably already considered this
but I'd disguise the bare wood of the cassettes...

A bit of paint, or some brick printed card will help hide the edge of the cassettes,
as you look under the bridge
I always continue the scenery, ballasting etc underneath the bridge
It helps take the eye away from "un-scenicked" areas in the fiddle

Yes, exhibitions clash with football, walking, and gigs / music for me...
... but I still like doing them

Cheers again
Marc
