The human side of the railway...

Recommended Posts

No wonder all the blokes I see at exhibitions nowadays moan about piles. Nobody took notice of their grannies warnings.

After the wonderful archive B&W shots it is perhaps pleasing to record that children still wave at trains, and people still turn out to see the new...

800008 and 800009 arrive at Chippenham with 1C03 the 0700 from Paddington on the first day of IET operation

The things some of us did for the railway, A site visit to assess the signalling works for the original Thameslink project, at the Holborn Viaduct end of the tunnel in 1985.

If you are wondering about the 'Human' side rather than the vegetation, I've spotted at least three other S&T staff in the picture.

@ Rugd1022 - thanks, Rug. I was dead lucky to catch him with both feet off the ground!

Here's one from 1967 at Low Fell, with my three cousins (including baby in the now-vintage pram) watching D8590 with a southbound freight. The saddle of my bike is just encroaching in the bottom corner.

Gateshead East station in 1979, with a couple sitting on the platform edge waiting for a train to Newcastle. Spot the spelling mistake on the BR sign?

Interesting graffiti in the background.

Scarey to think that baby is mid 30s now but the scene seems like yesterday!

I'm sure I saw an HST power car in that livery only a few weeks ago.

This is a close-up of a section of a picture I uploaded on the Special Interests/Diesel Hydraulic Group section under 'Trev's Western Wanderings' - taken at Plymouth on 29th May 1974. Check that out for the full caption - there's more to it than meets the eye!
