treggyman
Hi Reece Thanks for the seasonal best wishes & the same to you...... Thanks also for your comments above ref 'upgrading'. I had thought it might be more trouble than it's worth to upgrade Defiances motor/chassis so from your comments above I don't think I'll bother. I don't intend using it for slow speed shunting or similar, just gently trundling through with a rake of wagons...... My main concern was it's haulage capacity.but that is fine.....So as she looks OK to me.....has had pipework etc added to one end, etched name plates etc added and a nice respray job, just a bit of weathering & she'll be fit for purpose..... Cheers Bill Watch out Penhallick Junction.....Here she comes!!!!!
Arpleymodeller
Hello Bill, Yes for a relatively small space there is a decent amount of operating potential. The scenery is suitable too with the use of half relief buildings and landscape above and below the tracks. Following with interest. treggyman
Hello Bill, Yes for a relatively small space there is a decent amount of operating potential. The scenery is suitable too with the use of half relief buildings and landscape above and below the tracks. Following with interest. Regards Lewis Hi Lewis Thanks for the comment....The layout is quite narrow (only 20ins wide) so half relief is vital & the angled boards help the curve.. treggyman
Hi All Bought myself the Express Models EXLC2 Automatic barrier warning lights with sound for Christmas..... After a couple of self inflicted wireing c*** ups I thought I'd fried the unit as I couldn't get it to work.... However an Email sent last night responded to today problem sorted...... The unit is great.....Correct sequence of lights...Solid orange followed by flashing reds...BUT the most effective bit is the 'siren'...it really sets the unit off.....Very pleased wit it....... May now have to more seriously consider making working barriers!!!!! A couple of pictures....The signal is also installed... Cheers Bill Edit due to sending post by accident before finishing it....Again!!!! Edited January 2, 2014 by treggyman

treggyman
Great Stuff I've not seen Western Region Barrier machines and cages modelled before. Nice one! Hi Thanks for the comment.....Greatly appreciated..... Now you come to mention it, I don't think I've seen them modelled before.... Although they are not truly to scale, nor 100% accurate representations as documented above I think they look the part.... Thanks again Cheers Bill
treggyman
Great progress there Bill! So you'll be finished for bringing up to Barnstaple in July!!! Hi The barriers were a real "mental" block to progressing the layout..... They & the crossovers are in my mind a key part of setting the scene....... Now they are installed & working (I got the signal fully working tonight pictures to follow hopefully tomorrow) I feel I can progress at a quicker pace without Modellers Block. So in answer to your question.....Yes it will be as finished as any "complete" layout is...ie lots of little additions possible to complement/add to the scene will be possible but nothing major..... I'm already looking forward to the trip as my son & I had a very enjoyable day last year with Penhallick Cheers Bill
treggyman
Yep! Really nice work Bill, they look the business. Cheers Jack barriers look great & the lights just add to the overall effect, nice job. Hi Jack & Ralph Thanks for the above comments.... As I said in my reply above I feel that a 'barrier' (pardon the pun) has been removed so progress can now be made..... Not that there is much major work to do... Cheers Bill
treggyman
Looking brilliant David Hi David Thanks for the comment.....Really appreciated..... I do now feel that progress has been made.... Now just a question of adding more details to set the scene..... (Apologies for replying out of sequence) Cheers Bill
treggyman
Hi All Grotty weather today so a bit of modelling done.... First up was to wire in the signal at the Exeter end of the station..... This was a scratchbuilt signal built for a previous now dismantelled layout....... First on green... Then red.... Acouple of pictures of the traintronics signal at the Barnstaple end..... First green with the feathers & the levelcrossing lights flashing ( & siren sounding ) Then red.... I also fitted handrails & set nos to the front of the 108 units.....There is a picture of latrge headcode box 108 set no P956 in my copy of Locomotives & coaching stock 1989 showing this unit with handrails.....As far as I'm aware the set number for P872 is correct in having a small headcode box....BUT....Whether it had handrails or not as it wasn't 'til I looked in Brian Morrison's British Rail DMU's & Railcars I realised that not all 108's had handrails on the front !!!!!! Still ,too late now !!!! Also did a bit more to my birthday present....The Ratio Van B.... Just needs lettering.... ( Can't seem to find any suitable transfers anywhere...Ideas any one???? ) the screw link coupling fitting to the back & a lot of weathering......All the pictures of these I've seen show them as being filthy.....Paul Bartlett has an excellent gallery of pictures which are really inspirational..... Any way....A busy day.....Pleased with the signals but there is a lot of colour bleed from the traintronics signal that I shall have to look at...... Cheers Bill
