RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted August 27, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2012 Having read the recent thread on buses in Cornwall 60s70s style it got me searching... I feel the need to model a period single deck bus preferably in Western National livery but I've drawn a blank model wise. What type of bus is this ? http://www.flickr.com/photos/30461364@N04/3942106596/in/photostream/ EFE and OOC seem to have 50s onwards but I'd like something suitable for a bit earlier than a Bedford OB etc.
northernblue109
It's a pre-war Bristol L5G with a Beadle body. It's always worth Googling the registration number. Here's what the Bristol Vehicles web site has to say: http://www.bristolsu.co.uk/l/operatordetails/westernnational/dod518.htm There is no commercially available diecast for this prototype but, with a change of fleetname, the Corgi (Original Omnibus) post-war Bristrol L may be an acceptable alternative. BernardTPM
The L5G was produced as a kit by 'Little Bus Company' http://www.modelbuszone.co.uk/tmb/images_model_kits/LBC_HD38.jpg These kits include one-piece resin bodies, so aren't too difficult to put together. The L5G is shown as 'out of stock' here http://www.modelbuszone.co.uk/tmb/kits/lbc.htm but it may be one they re-run or you might find the kit second hand. autocoach
Or you could see if the Bedford OB was used. The Oxford version in Southern National colours is due out soon which might be easy to re-decal.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 13, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 13, 2012 Although lovely buses I fear they're a tad late for my modelling period mores the pity. The Oxford model is of the wartime OWB and therefore perfect for a late forties layout.
