With two of Gresley’s A4 Class normally exiled on the other side of the Atlantic, ‘Dominion of Canada’ and ‘Dwight D. Eisenhome’ are in the process of being temporarily repatriated to Britain in readiness for next year’s 75th Anniversary of ‘Mallard’ obtaining the World record for steam traction on 3rd July 1938.

Although all four preserved domestic A4’s were together for the 70th Aniiversary, the arrival of the two exiles will provide a unique opportunity to see the six survivors together. To coincide with their temporary arrival home, Bachmann are producing models of them as follows:

31-966 ‘Dwight D. Eisenhower’ in BR green with late crest

31-967 ‘Dominion of Canada’ in BR green with late crest

Also joining the current three catalogue A4’s is ‘Sir Nigel Gresley;’ (31-954B) in the distinctive BR blue livery it carries whilst currently operating on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

All have a recommended retail price of £129.40 and each is fitted with an 8PIN DCC socket and each is fitted with the recently introduced new chassis.

I'd have to disagree that Hornby have only done the experimental blue. Hornby have done two A4's in early BR blue, 60018 'Sparrow Hawk' with non corridor tender (DCC sound fitted) and 60024 Kingfisher with corridor tender (Rare Bird train pack). I've bought the Kingfisher and had it converted to 60007; post-16674-0-88245300-1346744669_thumb.jpg

Hornby is still yet to cover either apple green variants, post war LNER garter blue and BR garter blue. As far as I'm aware, Bachmann has covered the lot.

No one has commented that Bachmann's 60008 is paired with a Corridor Tender. If the model is supposed to be 'as preseved' is is clearly wrong

the SNG website (A Tangle of Tenders) informs me that 60008 had a corridor tender until 1/4/57 after which it got its present non-corridor type. Does anyone know when the double chimney and late crest were applied?

Else have Bachmann got it wrong?
