Signalling !

Chester No.3A, a BR (LMR) standard type 15, replacing an overhead structure (like Chester No.6 which some may know). These signals were provided as part of the stagework for Chester PSB, at this stage No.3A and No.4 (under the bridge) controlled the colour lights, but not for much longer.

These signals are still in use (as CR91 and CR93) and are frequently used by RMWeb member Jon F, as he works in the PSB that controls them

Cracking shot of 3A. Sadly I missed working at the manual boxes at Chester as I was still around Manchester/Bolton area when Chester PSB opened.

Oh and I've only just noticed....a bit slow of me but it's CR93 and CR 95 Dave....91s on the end of plat 4! :locomotive:

Weaver Jn Interior around 1990. Please accept my sincere apologies for the appalling jumper. At that time anything that kept you warm in that draughty hole of a box was ok as far as I was concerned!

Never really liked the place. Access was through several farm fields/gates struggling past Farmer Gleave's seemingly psychotic cows. Early turn relieving time was 0535 due to the cows milking times which meant in winter a lot of long early and very cold motorbike miles as I lived in Crewe at the time. Lots of interesting traffic but box position made it almost impossible to take pictures of passing trains.

I think (although I may be wrong) that this weekend the Crewe-Salop proper traditional signalling destruction fest re-signalling is taking place. In memory of one box that will be biting the dust that bears a remarkable resemblance to a much illustrated one on this thread.....

On a completely different bit of railway, and just for fun (no prizes etc)...taken in 1983, where's this?

Remember visiting the place about 1986/7 whilst planning some TD works ( for Trust IIRC). Took us an age to get to.

Nice project though. I had to visit every box from Nuneaton to Edge Hill.

Continuing on the random and poor quailty theme, one day I'll rescan these (and the other neagtives to compete the "sets", e.g. Weston Rhyn box)

No dates I'm afraid

I think this was when Flyingsignalman and I went to Norwich to visit a mate who was at UAE, which would make it 1979/1980

A temporary excursion elsewhere before we take a trip down the North Wales coast.

Ellesmere Port No.2 (see above) - 2 LNWR signals and an LNWR looping arm, the box is visible near to the home and distant showing off

Chester No.2, with the last main LNWR arms in use, June 1976

Port Sunlight Down (Slow) Starter - this also carried Bebington Down Slow Distant, the disused lamp betrays the missing arm

Port Sunlight Up (Slow) Distant - this signal was once (when there was a stop arm on the top and the distant arm was where the disused lamp can be see) Bebington's Up Slow Starter.

May I ask what the blue/red/black lever is?

You can but wether I will be able to give the right answer is debateable!

The blue and black levers are "economic" combined manual point and facing point lock levers so I would imagine that the blue/black/red one controls points/FPL and a directly operated shunt signal such as a rotating disc.
