Brassmasters 3F chassis and detailing kit

Rail-Online

Recommended Posts

Brassmasters had their new sprung loco chassis and CSB sprung tender chassis available for sale at Expo EM at the weekend.

In addition there is a detailing etch including some items that make a real difference to the loco such as beaded cab and rear splasher, front steps and a much nicer reverser for the cab -which shows how 'fat' the rear splasher 'boxes' inside the cab are!

Details and quite a few photos are available on their website but not shown are the replacement tender frames as the Bachmann ones are too far apart resulting in very shallow moulded springs and axleboxes.

25th Anniversary Offer

Brassmasters are “celebrating” their 25th Anniversary this year, and as they did on their 20th, they have decided to offer a “thank-you” to customers. For those who buy one of the following locomotive kits at the same as a tender there is a 25% price reduction on the price of each loco kit:

LMS Black 5

LMS Jubilee

LMS Patriot

LMS Royal Scot

LMS 4F

(This offer applies to purchases between up to 30 April 2013).

New items - coupling hooks and pockets

Etched in 12 thou brass this useful etch consists of 24 coupling hooks and associated rectangular wagon pockets. Hooks are arranged so they can easily be folded to form a double thickness, soldered together and filed for a prototypically thick hook, alternatively they can be fitted through the pockets singularly. The hooks are based on prototype drawings and feature a generous 'mouth' capable of accepting quite thick coupling links. A hole for the link is etched to accept 0.7mm links. Price £1.50 per etch or four for £5.

Bogie compensation units

Two new units are available at £6 per set covering 6’4” and 10’6” wheelbases. The range now includes eight different bogies, the other six covering wheelbases of 7’0”, 8’0”, 9’0”, 10’0” and 8’6” for either 12mm or 14mm wheels.

Etched windows

Finally, new 2mm etched windows have been introduced for the Scalescenes engine shed, the windows and rooflights are £1.50 each, and for the signalbox which includes signal levers and steps in addition to the main windows at £2.

Full details of this and all of their other products can be obtained by sending an sae to Brassmasters at PO Box 1137 Sutton Coldfield West Midland B76 1FU or via their website www.brassmasters.co.uk

Well, that's excellent, thanks for that Andy, you are rapidly becoming an indispensable 'Ace Reporter on the scene'...! ;)

The 3F chassis is brilliant news, coming just before Scaleforum, and exactly what I was hoping for to convert my own Bachmann example.

Doesn't look like there's any reference to this aspect on the Brassmasters website.

So I guess it's a case of live with them or do your own thing about it.

That is the impression I have too. While it is clear that this Brassmasters detailing kit is very good indeed it's difficult to see the reasoning behind doing what they have done, but leaving the splashers alone. They are so obviously oversize that it undermines the entire model, so why pay £40 plus the cost of the Bachmann RTR when you are still going to have an inaccurate model? Don't understand.

Regards
