RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted October 3, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2012 Yesterday the first group of engines arrived at Stowmarket ready for the start of the RHTT - next week, (RHTT = Rail Head Treatment Train = Leaf buster) The weather was fine until about 10 minutes before these arrived, when what could only be described as a wall of water headed North, and the light went West. 02 October 2012 Needham Market 57305, 57310 and 57306 on 0Z35, 12:48, Eastleigh - Stowmarket Down Loop - light engines for RHTT

69843
Odd question, but what is the white item above the fuel tanks on 05/10 but not on 06?
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted October 3, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2012 Odd question, but what is the white item above the fuel tanks on 05/10 but not on 06? These ? They look like oil cooling pipes to me, the locos are handed so on 06 it's on the other side. (Notice the roof grilles, which shows that 05 + 10 are the opposite way round to 06)
69843
Cheers for that, and no, I didn't notice the roof grills...(red face).
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted October 3, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2012 These ? They look like oil cooling pipes to me, the locos are handed so on 06 it's on the other side. (Notice the roof grilles, which shows that 05 + 10 are the opposite way round to 06) Similar pipes were first fitted to 47/7's on the Glasgow-Edinburgh push-pulls and were reported to be extra cooling for the heavier use of the braking systems on these services. The extra pipes are fitted to "passenger" 57's such as /3 and /6, but not 57/0's. Cheers, Mick
60026to
Nice pics. It will be intresting to see how the yellow bears up when they start 'leaf busting' after seeing the 67 on other thread.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 3, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2012 If my memory is working right white pipes are for air (I know blue was definitely water and Im not sure but I think pink was probably fuel or lube oil) and I've an idea these loops were installed to help condense water in the air system - but I'm not certain on that. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted October 4, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2012 Took a trip to Stowmarket last night and, using my size 12s, I managed to get some more shots, not brilliant but given the overgrowth I'm pretty pleased with them although suffering with lots of scratches, stings and bruises today ! The colour rendition varies as I was taking over an 8' fence, blind so who knows what the camera was metering off ! - it was also quite dark ! 57306 (nearest the exit), 57310 and 57305 (nearest the buffer stops) 90004 and 82121 take 1P59, 18:00, Norwich - London Liverpool Street off into the gloom. 57306 57310 57305

Baby Deltic
Cracking shots there Beast. Just a shame they are using 'bodysnatchers' instead of class 47's.
