Sam*45110*SVR
It's been how long since I posted anything here !! It's been so long since serious progress I've grown a beard, twice ! With my A levels finally done and dusted I actually restarted work on the coach (both the model and the real thing now I have more time !) and couldn't believe I last did anything to it in January ! Anyway a little progress after working out what was left to do. 1. touched up the bare plastic in the corners with black paint. 2. Picked up from January and filled the holes from the old vents and drilled new holes according to the CAD drawing in the first post. 3. Test fitted the vents, just need some more superglue and they'll be in ! Here are pics to show the current state of the coach. Amazing that a lick of paint on the corners can improve the look so much ! Shot of the roof showing new vent postions and filled holes. The interior still blutacked in place after about 8 months ! The to do list: Glue in the roof vents Prime roof vents Mask off and spray paint roof (dreading this as I don't want to ruin the finish on the sides with dark grey !) Fix interior in place Spray the sides with matt varnish Fit glazing Figure out a way to secure the body to the chassis anything I've forgotten Show it off to some hopefully impressed volunteers and pose next to the real thing ! RMweb Premium MJI Posted July 11, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11, 2014 At least if you mess up you can modify the real one to match. Time for some full size tenson locks?
RMweb Gold teaky Posted July 11, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2014 "Mask off and spray paint roof (dreading this as I don't want to ruin the finish on the sides with dark grey !)" Have you considered brush painting the roof Sam? It isn't an area where perfection is required due to all the atmospheric pollution around steam railways. Sam*45110*SVR
Hello everyone Just a quick post to tell you about the SVRs Peep Behind the Scenes event this Saturday 19th July. For those of you that don't know about it the event allows the general public to poke about all of the places they don't normally get to see such as : The Kidderminster carriage works Kidderminster signal box Kidderminsters 1/5 mile long Carriage shed Bewdley carriage works Pway demonstrations at Bewdley Bridgenorth Shed and works Anything I've forgotten ! Also a rare opportunity to ride the Stourport and Tenbury line stubs in the DMU. I believe the departures are timed so that they coincide with the main line departures so you can experience parralell running with the steam hauled trains ! (or D1062 Western Courier is that's your thing ) 73129, 7812 and 43106 should be running Timetable C And last but not least our own gleaming (if the sun shines ) teak pigeon van 70759 will be open in Bewdley yard and I'll be there either working between (hopefully many) visitors or giving tours/explanations of what we've done and what's left to do ! Hopefully I'll see some of you there, Sam
Sam*45110*SVR
In the mad rush to get things done before heading to Uni I've made progress on my model. Following advice on here (thanks everyone) I brush painted the roof with grey enamel and sprayed it and the acrylic sides with matt acrylic varnish in one go..... Disaster, the paint on the roof crinkled up immediately and I realised my error, I'm just thankful it was not the other way around ! The ruined paint was scaped off then repainted and brush painted with matt enamel varnish. Lesson learnt ! Anyway that was a few days ago and now I've just finished glazing the coach ! So with all that done here is the updated to do list: Glue in the roof vents Prime roof vents Mask off and spray paint roof (dreading this as I don't want to ruin the finish on the sides with dark grey !) Fix interior in place Spray the sides with matt varnish Fit glazing Figure out a way to secure the body to the chassis anything I've forgotten Show it off to some hopefully impressed volunteers and pose next to the real thing ! (hopefully thursday) Sam edit 09/09/14 : must proof read before posting....
Sam*45110*SVR
Almost there ! Last few jobs before I show it off tomorrow (actually today since it's now 12:30am !) To get the body and chassis to stay together I've glued a bit of wood inside on end of the body and drilled a hole in the chassis, straight through the C of made in china ! Test fitted then glued in the interior and trimmed the guards compartment so it would fit next to the bit of wood. I should have tested everyting at the same time in hindsight.... Waiting for the glue to dry... Just two things left now: Screw the body to the chassis Show it off to some hopefully impressed volunteers and pose next to the real thing ! Sam*45110*SVR
Finished !!! I took my model to the SVR today and showed it off to everyone and they were all very impressed I took quite a few pics so here are the best ones. Unfortunately the camera decided to focus on anything that wasn't my model in the pics, eg a ketchup bottle, the DMU behind the fence, parked cars etc. And here it is in front of the 12" to the foot version ! and finally a nice shot of the back of the real thing. Cheers, Sam
Sam*45110*SVR
Hmmm, those pictures aren't very good... I've had another go now I've worked out the moodiness of the camera settings ! If anyone wants any larger versions (about 5Mb) PM me. Wow the ones with flash really show it warts 'n' all ! Thanks to everyone who has given me advice or encouragement through this longer than anticipated build ! Sam

I must say you and the crew are making a very fine job of the full size rebuild. I was very kindly invited to see the work about 3 if not more years ago when it was still a full brake and I think work was being done on the floor. So different now looks very impressive
