P & H Models

Recommended Posts

Clicked a banner advert on RMWeb this evening and discovered http://pandhmodels.com/

As I am considering switching to Kadee couplings I found they seem to stock a good collection of the various types.

However being a suspicious sort of person I noted that the only phone number is a mobile and there is no contact address, which always rings alarm bells for me!

Anybody had any dealings with them please? would you recommend them or otherwise?

Regards,

Dave

I too have been delighted with this supplier having purchased from them at shows. When I needed a small supply between shows I was delighted to see that not only was the unit price good but postage was charged at cost.

Thanks to you all for the wholehearted recommendations; when I come to make the switch to Kadee I will have no hesitation in using them.

As I said in my original post I am always cautious when there is no address or land-line number - that's what working in Information Security does to you!

Thanks again,

Dave

Visited the recently opened shop and as the show stand used to be, it's mine of items which are hard/ impossible to find elsewhere, namely Walthers, Kadee, Duha etc. They don't hold big stocks of the bigger ticket items but there is no shortage of the detailing bits and bobs, particularly for buildings. Good stocks of Bachmann wagons and scenic bits.

Well worth a visit but check opening times on the website and worth a phone call if it's something specific you're after

I think Phil and Helen are the same couple who used to run P & H Models when it was in Chedder somerset and even Banwell before that , from my dealings with them then I would recommend them as good enthuisastic railway/railroad people . Helen knows more than phil does about trains some times, sorry about that phil but you live far enough away for it to be safe to say that now,But miss the chats in the shop . say hello from one of there old West Country customers

Sad to report that Phil and Helen look to be closing the retail shop in Louth. Called yesterday to find it closed and a note in the window saying it would re-open on Monday but also an advert for the shop fittings. Stock appears to be being run down, no Bachmann and very little Hornby left. The proprietor of an adjacent stall said he heard they were leaving the market but I believe they are to continue with on-line sales of Kadee, Walthers, Duha etc.

Sadly another victim of the squeeze on retailers in our hobby.

Sadly the retail shop in Louth has now closed but they are continuing to trade on the website, specialising the US bits - Walthers, Kadee, evergreen, Duha etc.

The service will be as efficient as ever and they are intending to still cover a small number of shows, Spalding, Wakefield and Doncaster among them.

The squeeze on retailers and escalating prices of RTR will probably mean that there are more closures of the smaller shops to come.

Spoke to Phil a while back and the problem seemed to be that the shop was not getting enough visitors. Also there was not a lot of space to be able to show/hold all of his stock so, perhaps, just not enough local trade. Louth is a bit off the beaten track for many of us. A previous model shop in the town won a retailer of the year award in it's first year and then closed the following year although I am not aware of the reasons for that but they could be similar.

The good news is that it was clear that he had every intention of continuing to trade on the web. I have used P&H a number of times and I fully recommend them for good advice, prompt order handling and delivery, considerate and competitive service.

Used these recently for some Kadees and the service was first class.

Used them many times, at shows, mail and for the brief period when the shop was open and could never have anything but praise for the high standard of service given. Thankfully there's always someone you can turn to who knows what they're talking about where the black art of which Kadee is concerned!

Sad to report that Phil and Hellen have sold P&H and will be doing their final show at Wakefield next week. The business is set to continue under new ownership and hopefully will have the same standards of service which they have provided so successfully over the years.

Wishing them well for the future and thanks for all their efforts in the past.
