.......... I'm looking forward to reviewing in a few weeks time, that hasn't even been announced yet!

CHRIS LEIGH

Does this co-incide with the comments in the magazine (received today!) about small carriage workings....... Might we be getting some new GWR carriages????? - Or is that just wishful thinking?

Toplights perhaps? New tooling for B stock / non corridor maybe? :-)

No. I was referring to the 2-BIL which hadn't been announced at the time I made that posting.

Re Backscene, MR 178 p.145; Peco Points and DCC

I was surprised at the letter from Ben Arnold, Engineering & Development Director at PPP Co. Ltd., because your instructions in MR's DCC supplement for electrofrog points are very similar to those on the "Peco Streamline 83 Line HO Flexible Track and Electrofrog Turnouts" leaflet that is enclosed with their electrofrog code 83 points. If Ben Arnold disapproves of your instructions, perhaps he should disapprove of his company's own instructions first. In my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with your instructions.

I have an OO/HO garden layout using various Peco points. It is my experience that point-blade contact works for a couple of weeks after installation, and then it is absolutely impossible to keep the contact points on the switch blades clean, so I have to do something to ensure current gets to all required rails at all appropriate times. This means rewiring Peco's points as you have shown in the DCC supplement (electrofrog) or by a method similar to Hornby's Digital Electric Point Clips (insulfrog, although the dead part of the frog needs extending a bit to avoid short circuits). I should remind all those who want to complain about my use of Peco track outdoors that "Peco Streamline with nickel silver rail is suitable for use out of doors in temperate climatic conditions. ... The over-centre spring should be lubricated ..." [again from their code 83 leaflet], which in my opinion just about covers all of their NS track in the UK.

Suppose its typical of the slowness that pervades Beer but the logical thing for Peco to do would be to do all the possible wiring and instruct purchasers to snip the wires they do not want, far less risky than trying to solder a link in place. In any event a wire across the pivot on blades is a definate need for all that they should be doing as its the other weak power link aside from the conatct between the blade and stock rails

Why does the picture of Brinkley in post #11 look more like an electronicly drawn picture rather than a photo of a model?

Too much Photoshopping I think!

Happy modelling.

Steven B.

Yes, it does look a little that way. It's very light, slightly washed out and with a strange pupleish/white tint on the loco wheels. But neat modelling and a nice composition, if a little odd looking on my screen - perhaps its that which needs adjusting?

Grahame,

See my post #25 above - I think your screen needs adjusting.
