Grafar class 37 renumbering

scottishlocos

The only Split box 37's I recall having Big T's in Dutch were 043 or 351 both of which 035 should suit more or less (plated doors/headlight), now I am faily certain 043 was, until fairly late on RETB fitted for the west highland so would suit a scottish example. If you want to go pre-Transrail you open up a number of other choices, 025/087 being two.

Hi,

You could check out Precision labels and decals. http://www.precisionlabels.com/   If you email John the required loco numbers and colour, (email address on the website) he will make up the number sets for you and send them through as transfers. I've used these to renumber several of my locos.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Here are several Scottish Class 37 with split headcodes boxes in Civil Engineering livery, together :

Note that 37087 has the earlier black numbers and appears to be suitable

Here are some lone examples (the other Class in the pair being in a different livery) :

The different position of the headlamps does present an issue though, so would limit the options unless you are willing to modify
However, it does confirm 37043 is almost the only other suitable straight renumbering

Note that 37069/071 & 099 all retained nose end doors unlike 035 which has plated over doors therefore would involve more work hence I didn't list them in my first post. 012 was another with plated ends, as did 058 (although a slightly shorter plate one end) 066, 092 (think this one was rivited), 098 - I think that is about it from the top of my head!

My Farish 37035 arrived this morning
I started to compare some of the photos and decided 37043 would be the most suitable
Some of the others I looked at only had one end plated over, or the headlight was off-centre
Sadly it doesn't appear to have carried Eastfield plates, as Inverness plates would have been appropriate for when this loco was allocated in Scotland in 1992, but was later allocated to Motherwell in 1994
