Very nice Terry. I've got 2 of these to build at some point. Are there any tips you can give me please?

Blimey you have your hands full with two models...this one has taken me around six months so far on and off. I am thinking of getting another one tho as the kit is superb.

The only advice i have is read the instructions very carefully as this kit is very involved and one mistake along the way will put a halt to further developments. Also if you can get away with painting each part you build before fixing it to the model it will save time and it won't be as difficult to paint once completed. Other than that mate just have fun building it as i have.

Cheers for the advice mate. I'm in no rush to get them done so I'll just take my time. The BRM article mentioned about 50 hours per build if I remember correctly.

Yeah that sound about right although the first one may longer as it has for me and i must have another six hours or so left.

Hi Terry,

Commiserations on the previous job, and congratulations on the new one!!! Hope it works out for you, especially with all the fuel you'll need for that R35!!!!!

The Tamper is sublime, very well built, your work is really neat too. I'll look forward to seeing it finished and weathered.

Cheers Jinty.....i am looking forwards to finishing it too as it's been on the work bench for over six months and i have so much other work on the layout to be getting on with but there should not be too many hours work left on it hopefully. I am stuck on the bogies whether to pay out £65 for the beetle bogies or just take some bogies off an old wagon and just fix them on instead and just have it as a feature in a siding and just add headlights and orange flashing lights on top.

Well, I personally would go for motorising it. After all your hard work up to now, it would be the crowning glory to see it pottering around under its own steam diesel!!!!!!

And you can sit back with pride and say to yourself, or anyone else, "I built that".

But it's ultimately up to you, as it already looks great!!! ;)

Hi all

Well after around seven months of building the tamper unit it is now more or less finished. It has now been weathered and varnished and all it needs now are the hand rails to be cut painted and fitted so here is the final product.

I highly recommend this Plasser Tamper from Clockwork Ideas...it is very involved as well as time consuming and can be very difficult at times but if like me you like rail maintenance vehicles then this is very much for you.

I'm a massive fan of Glebe Road so I find all your updates and photos inspiring but the Tamper looks like you've raised the bar again. Fantastic stuff! I've very impressed.

Thanks a lot mate...the tamper does look good don't it but it did take me long enough to build. It is right up there with my best locos i own now.

This is modelling 'porn' of the highest order Terry 8) . For me, something that looks that good should be 'done all the way' and motorised. But that's just my opinion. Tremendous stuff mate...well done indeed !!! :imsohappy:

Calm down Dave don't get to excited we dont want you exploding now do we lol. But i agree it's an amazing kit as it is not something you see very often. I think i will motorize it one day but for now it can just look pretty sitting in the siding.

Cracking stuff! Spent many a cold, wet Saturday night working with those things years ago! If we were lucky, when it was *really* cold they broke down... ;)

Hi Terry,

Been lurking in the shadows for a while watching your layout develop. I like reading your thread then catching up on youtube to see things in motion. Will the Tamper be entered into the RMWeb loco build competition?

Keep up the good work, im heading back into my shadow to paint some rails and sleepers :)

Excellent job Terry.  It's great to get a big project off the bench and onto the layout.  The weathering sets it off very well, you should be very proud of your work there.

Cheers

Thanks Richard....yes it is a load of my shoulders and i am very glad it is now more or less finished but i now have the HAA's to be getting on with but still need to get the coal loads before work commences.
