Grimleygrid
This is looking proper tasty Thanks Will, I am now beginning to feel that progress is being made. It is definitely starting to come together and hopefully over the next 6 to 12 months we will see this project move forward. One thing I noticed when looking at the photos yesterday evening, I spent a long time on the pipe work and you cannot really see it!!! Still, it's there..... I have been keeping my old iPhones which will hopefully allow the cameras to be fitted in something to give some interesting views from inside the shed.
Grimleygrid
At the moment board number 3 has some of the floor pieces and other bits and bobs on it, this board has been used as a temporary workbench come store for the past few months. Later on this week I hope to take a photo of all three boards together to show the main part of the layout, especially as I have not done this with the main depot shed in position on its board, board 1. Here you can see boards 1 and 2: Untitled by AP474, on Flickr The 56 and 37707 are just on board number 2: Untitled by AP474, on Flickr Untitled by AP474, on Flickr Earlier whilst looking at a few different things I remembered that not only was this the first time the shed had been united with the weathered floor pieces but it was also the first time that the main shed had been put on board number 1 since I weathered the walls. A crude photo looking down road 9, not the best but you get the idea: Untitled by AP474, on Flickr

Marcus 37
Hi Alex Just having a catch up. Got to say this looks absolutely stunning. Really nice to see the layout boards appearing as well. It's going to be something else once the depots combined into the layout. Can't wait to see it. Cheers Marcus
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted November 1, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2018 A great period back then, I too visited Toton in 1988, lots of variety of traction and liveries, superb! I have been keeping my old iPhones which will hopefully allow the cameras to be fitted in something to give some interesting views from inside the shed. You could also use a small USB video camera, to film the locos arriving and departing through the shed …. A small camera is only about 25mm / 40mm square … We fitted one into the end of the depot on Oakley Green, contained within a store room with opening doors. Grimleygrid
I will keep saying this but this truly is one magnificent peice of model engineering David Thanks for the kind comments David, being totally honest, I think that after working on this project for nearly 9 years I would be inclined to say make it up as you go along modelling! I hope this time next year it will look very different. Getting the depot floor finished is a big milestone in my head. Hi Alex Just having a catch up. Got to say this looks absolutely stunning. Really nice to see the layout boards appearing as well. It's going to be something else once the depots combined into the layout. Can't wait to see it. Cheers Marcus Thanks Marcus, it will be good to see some track down on the new boards out the front of the shed. You could also use a small USB video camera, to film the locos arriving and departing through the shed …. A small camera is only about 25mm / 40mm square … We fitted one into the end of the depot on Oakley Green, contained within a store room with opening doors. Thanks for the suggestion MM, a good idea. It would probably be prudent to have some sort of CCTV inside to help with driving the locos inside the shed, especially those running on the dead-end roads towards the buffer stops. MRDBLUE17
Hi Alex, it’s taken me a little while to catch up but it’s really looking impressive and certainly captures the real depot well. Adding those boards you can really see how big it’s going to be and how many locos you’ll need! Plenty of room for a long rake of BBA’s! Happy Christmas and keep up the great work on it. Grimleygrid
Hi Mark, Merry Christmas, hope you had a good one. Don’t worry I have the same issue, there just isn’t the time. I also find that I struggle to find time to browse RMweb and keep up to date with all the threads. Thanks Mark for the kind comments. Yes it does make you realise just how short of traction I am. Boxenby will look like it only has an allocation of 20 locos!!!I took the decision a long time ago to concentrate on the layout rather than the stock which is hopefully paying off. I am hoping to get the track plan down on the two new boards in the New Year to allow point building and track laying to start.Adding the two new boards and looking down the layout hopefully gives a little flavour of what I am trying to achieve. I do like BBAs, especially with a pair of Thornaby 37/5s on the front! Perhaps in 2030 when I add a four track mainline to the side of the depot!!! Happy New Year! Grimleygrid
Is it really nine years since I first devised this layout idea? Well here we are again, another year on and time to reflect on the past twelve months to see what progress has been made. More often than not I find that I have not managed to achieve what I set out to, or very little progress at the least. However, this year I have actually managed to achieve what had been a target for the past few years, weathering the depot floor. I have been meaning to and trying to get this particular task completed for many a year, or it certainly feels like it. As the summers have approached and with the best intentions, unfortunately autumn has arrived with the depot floor pieces remaining untouched. Thankfully this year I did get this completed, a relief I have to say.Whilst the depot floor is not fitted in its final position, the pieces are pretty much ready to be put down permanently. A few photos, please excuse the uneven floor, they have just been rested in position and some are not quite down properly. Untitled by AP474, on Flickr Untitled by AP474, on Flickr Untitled by AP474, on Flickr I am hopeful that 2019 will see track laying commence on the two new boards. Who knows, maybe this time next year we will have seen some Type 5 movements out the front of Boxenby depot……. Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to view and comment on my thread over the past year it is much appreciated. I wish all RMweb members a Happy New Year, all the best for 2019.

class60lover
I would say taking your time is very much paying off. I have read through the thread a couple of times and its great to see how it has evolved over the time. with the base boards down and some track it will really start to feel like you are making progress. We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. OR taking your time so you don't go down the wrong road Happy new year
