RMweb Gold Revolution Mike Posted July 8, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 8, 2013 Hi Kev I hope you guys got home OK following the van issues! (Apparently electronic immobilisers don't like hot weather!). Cheers, Mike

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 8, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 8, 2013 Just got back from visiting for the first time. I thought it was an excellent show with a great selection of layouts & traders. Too many quality layouts to pick a favourite but my three year old son loved Rhydwyn Fawr. Hats off to the organisers. Thanks Sam If that was the Steelworks then it was my 10 year old son's favourite too. Loved the action and the noise!
Tom J
The years have flown by since my first Showcase, back in the days when we used to be in the Catholic church hall (with Jesus covered up with a dust sheet to stop him peeking at the layouts). Last year was my first for a while and I was only able to make a flying visit. This year, despite it being the only time I could take my son to the NRM for the Great Gathering, we managed to fit in a visit after church (and lunch) yesterday. The standards of organisation, presentation and the layouts themselves were a great credit to all concerned. I've been to plenty of things in Burton town hall, exhibitions included, and you did a great job. Unfortunately, I had to tote my son's stuff (I think we were the only visitors carrying a trombone!!) and his fixation with 'Banbury' meant that we didn't spent a lot of time looking at other layouts. I actually missed Coppell entirely! Would have loved to have spent more time looking at 'Loch Tat' as well - that looked lovely in the flesh. Thomas Ivor spotted a cheeky steam special and was most amused, as I'd told him about the steam ban! So, we spent a good amount of time with 'Banbury' and special thanks must go to the team for their kindness and tolerance! Seeing my lad operating an exhibition layout for the first time was very special. I was impressed to see some preservation-era Mk2as have already received chocolate and cream! I must get my hands on a BSO or two to make into maroon support coaches... We went back into the 'demo room' towards the end of the day (having been granted a slightly extended stay thanks to my ex-wife's train being caped at Notts!) and Thomas Ivor asked if he could sit down and 'learn about something'. Thanks to the demonstrators for engaging with him; sometimes we go to exhibitions and people doing modelling demos panic when a little lad of four sits down in front of them. The surprise is that he is already very knowledgable and that he has the attention span and interest to take in what is going on! He is not quite ready for etched brass kits just yet, but he now has a good idea how they work amongst other things. The parking change is a pain in the bum, but of course the location is very convenient for Burton station, from whence the little guy left me for another three weeks, to go back to Devon. Were it not for that particular convenience we wouldn't have made it at all, and I'm very glad we did. Well done everyone and thank you!

Bungus the Fogeyman
Love the picture of the young fella telling Andy Jones where he's going wrong........ Disgusting of Market Harborough
Tom J
Andy was very good with the little chap. My lad is keen to see his 'Teddy bear' when it is finished, presumably to check that his advice has been followed...
the penguin of doom
If Andy Jones was the chap building the 14, I found his attitute to be spot on. As soon as I came to look at what he was building, it was model down and friendly hat on. A refreshing change from some modellers who can sometimes be very ignorant and somewhat lacking in the social skills department. Please pass on my thanks for a smashing natter with a decent bloke. Cheers. Sean.
