Loving all your stock, such a wide variety of wagons and great weathering. I noticed that you have some of the old Lima Iron Ore Tipplers, if it helps I sprayed mine with Halfords red primer first, then used different weathering powders to get the rusty look. I can dig out my method/process if you are interested? They run in rakes of 24 and it is only the two outer wagons that have buffers. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I really do like that rake you have. I've got 21 - but prepared to forego the additional 3. Questions - the bogies on yours look bigger - are they sourced elsewhere ? Second - transfers - any ideas. I also see a pipe etc underneath which is absent on mine - I assume you've added that ? Did you fit a bar instead of a coupling ? Looks "a bit better" than the huge Lima coupling on mine.... But probably getting on the for straight to exploit a "mother load" of wagons. Was it the weekly trip to Bescot in the '80s that turned me into this crazed wagon head ?! Watch this space. Last two months also done 100miles on the running obsession... 100miles each month I should say. Target for the year is 1000miles. Does have the effect of tiring me out if I'm honest... Anyway, fitted a few brake discs to some MEAs I'd done previously: Still have a few more to do though... I lined these up on the track a few weeks back. I forget how many there were - about 50. Bachy 66 no go. Hornby 60 would just about do it. Way too long in practical terms - nowhere to stable it apart from "on the main" but it was certainly prototypical ! Load wise I haven't decided what's going in them. I had originally thought "coal" from an open cast situation / no loading or unloaded facilities apart from "a digger". The bogies are the FBT6 version and came supplied with the kits. I believe the same ones as used on the FNA Nuclear Flask and BAA steel carrier. Not sure if Bachmann have released them as spares yet but Cambrian certainly do. The transfers were made up by myself using Adobe Illustrator and then printed as colour dry-rub down transfers. I am more than happy to help you with them. The pipe work was brass wire added to the under frame along with the Westinghouse air brake distributor, the latter sourced from Inter-City Models. Update this morning: JNA - redoing the Hattons "weathered" ones: IOA - redoing some Hattons ones and also some none weathered ones: For the above I've taken the wheels off, sprayed internals with Railmatch dark rust. This afternoon I aim to airbrush the underframes & sides, I can then do the manual distressing this weekend. MOAs - have taken a leaf out of Bobs book and wielded soldering iron. Looks gruesome now but I'm sure they'll come up nice. Wheels removed (will hand paint), internals dark rust and this pm grand airbrush session in the garden on the frames / sides Finally, have decided to call it quits on the MRAs. rs4 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Share Posted March 17, 2013 Hello again Well, further work to report in - keep thinking the subject over and wanting to "add more" Realised that the pens mentioned before could be used to touch up various details like hand levers, shock absorbers, bearing covers etc. have added some yellow covering up graffiti or corrosion and have added ballast splatter: Ballast splatter on IOA: Have done some light ballast splatter on JNAs also: Next up added previously made ballast loads to IOAs: I have decided to redo these ones to match the others - just prefer the shade as being new ballast on its way to a virtual quarry: Need to get these finished off this afternoon and hand kitchen table back.... After major damage inflicted by soldering iron and a liberal coating of frame dirt....now comes the rusting. First lashings of light rust applied tonight. Will follow this by a dark rust application and maybe something else (more paint and / or powders). Manual rubbing down likely after that. Have decided to use these for gypsum... So rusting the internals may be a little pointless given that they seem to get coated bright white ! Cue experiment. After some further rusting on these I want to airbrush inside with white to create a "powdery cloud" type pattern.
