RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2013 Sad news to hear of his passing. He was always one of my favourite character actors, from 'Marriage Lines' in the 60s and 'The Good Life' in the 70s. as the star of 'Ever Decreasing Circles' who suffered from what is now known as OCD and 'Monarch of the Glen' A great Shakespearean actor as well. Listening to the obituaries on the radio he was a much loved character in 'the business'. .
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted February 18, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2013 I just read this on BBC News website. I always admired his role as Tom Good in 'The Good Life', and loved his narration of 'Rhubarb and Custard'. RIP Richard, and well done on a good life. S.A.C Martin
Absolutely gutted. I will forever remember my own father (Jerry) imitating Tom and Jerry whilst watching the good life over dinner. He is going to be much missed. Last thing I saw him in was Cockneys VS Zombies. He was brilliantly funny as always.
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
That's really sad news; another part of my childhood (and a good part of my adulthood too) lost for ever. Thanks for the memories of your wonderful acting and great comic timing, Mr Briers.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted February 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2013 Terrible shame - an awful lot of talent in one man and at a comparatively early age by today's standards.
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted February 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2013 A fine actor as has been said - I was always jealous of someone who got so close to Felicity Kendal. R.I.P Richard.
34theletterbetweenB&D
Very typical of the man that he acknowledged that smoking contributed to his failing health, without making a major fuss over it. Happily remembered by all who knew him is a fine epitaph. RIP.
DDolfelin
I fondly remember meeting him in Aberdovey when his car broke down. We enjoyed Honey Ice Cream. He was the same in life as on the screen - the mark of a fine actor. A kindly man.
trisonic
He never realized that he was a "star". Very unusual in this day and age. Shame he didn't do the more serious stuff, earlier in his career. Best, Pete.
Steve Williams
What a sad loss. 'The Good Life' and 'Ever Decreasing Circles' are classics.
bluebottle
When my brother was campaigning for a knighthood for Eric Sykes (ultimately unsuccessfully, alas), Richard Briers was one of the big names from the entertainment profession who gave support. Our sister took a phone call from Briers on one occasion and the long conversation that followed left her with an enduring and happy memory of a generous and witty man. robmcg
I too lament Richard Briers' passing. A brilliant man. I think he was at his best, for me anyway, in 'Ever Decreasing Circles'. R I P Rob
