bmthtrains - David
I’ve yet to see any attempt at wires that looks workable to me. Partly it’s a scale issue, they’d be around 0.1mm thick which would be extremely difficult to achieve, but it’s the track cleaning/access issue that puts me off most. Really they’d need to lift out which means some kind of obvious hooking system. Probably easier to as an AI art bot to just add them to each picture! JackB95
What fantastic progress is being made! The layout is looking so smart now, and the warehouses just add that cherry to the already delicious sponge cake.
bmthtrains - David
Thanks Jack. This morning I’ve been sorting and painting detailing parts for the front scene, and gave my intermodals a good run. David

David I have wires on mine they was fidderley to solder, i used guitar strings no 8 & 10. For the cleaning of track I got a minitrix track cleaning wagon I just run up & down it keeps the track clean, across the baseboard join I have only loose fit the wire's with hooks on the end. 8
bmthtrains - David
I can imagine how fiddly that was to solder! David
bmthtrains - David
A bit of detailing today, a delivery of fresh linen is all bagged up and ready to be shipped out. David
shanks522
Looking fantastic David! The gantry’s and the buildings at the front really add more depth, superb!! Are you going to weather the track at all? Graham.
bmthtrains - David
Hi Graham, the track is weathered but only lightly. This is to reflect the whole ‘upgrade and renewal’ feel of the 2010s WCML. This shot shows the weathering better: David Edited March 28, 2023 by bmthtrains - David
Popular Post bmthtrains - David
Hello WCML! From this angle the layout appears pretty much finished. Just a few more details to add to the front industrial units scene. David 26 1

Are you going to take it to any local Exhibitions.I keep looking at your layout and thinking I must kick start myself into doing more on my layout. bmthtrains - David
The layout isn’t designed to be exhibited and it’s really quite small, just 2x 4’x2’6” boards that sit upright back to back in the spare bedroom when not in use. Going to make a dust cover to keep them clean. With the layout largely complete I can enjoy running it so have been making lists of potential future stock purchases. I need more container wagons but find identifying them a bit of a maze, so I have been trying to match what’s available (or forthcoming) to the different operators. Any additions/corrections to this list please let me know! Farish intermodal FIA EWS/DB Revolution KFA FL EWS/DB Revolution ecofret FL EWS/DB GBRf C rail pocket wagon FL C rail FSA FL Dapol Megafret FL EWS/DB GBRf DRS Dapol spine wagon FEAB FL I’d like a GBRf rake but there doesn’t seem to be much suitable? I’m also keen to avoid further KFAs as they have a habit of warping, which the FEABs apparently also do. David
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted March 30, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30, 2023 looks awesome! Early FEAs can warp, but I’ve never had a particular problem, and I’ve got at least 20 pairs. They are available in GBRf blue, albeit much less common, as the recent releases have all been FL. GBRf make use of KTA pocket wagons as well as FWA Ecofrets and IKA Megafrets as you identify. Plenty in there to make up a decent rake.
bmthtrains - David
I will look out for blue FEAs in that case, had only seen the FL green ones. If they don’t warp a good mix of those, pocket wagons and Megafret would look nice behind a Dapol GBRf 66 next year. David
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted March 30, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30, 2023 The FWAs are very nice too, Kernow have stock, on sale too, albeit not cheap. There are a couple of pairs of GBRf FEAs on eBay.
bmthtrains - David
The ecofrets are tempting but as they are £100 on sale for 120’ of container space versus £40 for the same on the FEAs I’ll start with the Dapol wagons. Really hoping the C-rail FSAs hurry up so I can properly do a Freightliner rake as well. David
bmthtrains - David
Hmm, it seems I may have to rethink my plan for a GBRf rake - the Dapol wagons are hideously warped. I will try heat bending them and then super gluing some containers on to see if it helps but at present the coupling hits the sleepers so it won’t run… David 2 3
RMweb Gold AndrueC Posted April 4, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 4, 2023 That's bad warping. Is that from new?
bmthtrains - David
It’s an eBay purchase but from the look of it the set has barely been used. David

David I think a photo and an email to Dapol asking if there are any repair options is necessary there. That is unreal. Presumably it was straight when you bought it? RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted April 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2023 Hi David, I have had some Dapol FEA-Bs with similar warping. I think the cause is a combination of: * the embedded metal weight not reaching the end * the plastic deck getting significantly thinner at that point, and * possibly the model itself being kept in a location where the temperature is not consistent, perhaps a loft or garage. I find it can be cured by resting the wagon upside down on a wooden block with the start of the bend on the edge of the block and then gently pushing down and holding for around 20-30 secs. I usually find it is necessary to push the outer end a little further than required, so when it springs back slightly it finishes straight. cheers Ben A. 1
bmthtrains - David
Hi Ben, I’ve given it a bend and superglued some containers which seems to have given it the rigidity it needed. I’m surprised there’s a weight in them at all really, so very bendy! David 13
Popular Post bmthtrains - David
I found a second less warped FEA set on eBay so now have the start of a GBRF container train, here being pulled by a Freightliner 66. When the Dapol GBRF 66 comes out next year and hopefully the C-Rail FSAs this year, I can finally run two correct trains! David 24
