A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Ah modelled with the original bow-strung bridge and the stationmasters house.Very nice Mr G ;)

Now he has given up the shows, this summer will see a major facelift to his Brent. I have just spent the day going through the game plan after years of storage.Trains are now running, which is not always an advantage as we end up playing trains instead of David working on it.

This will no doubt change shortly after 5th August - "Oh when the Saints Stars go come marching limping in."

I noted "Stars" (plural) in one of your early thread replies - something to look forward to on your revamped scenic section.

Hi Rob,

After that LNER intrusion you are going to have to have No. 4074 to go with it! Makes sure that Caldicot Castle turns up 15 minutes early though...

Mmmmmmm - 1925 all over again!

All the best,

Castle

PS: does this mean that I will have to lend my model I am going to do of No. 4079 to Gilbert?

Although I'm waiting for more scenic bits to come and a few more trees to add at the back, the corner is more or less finished and I'm much happier with it now.The new backscene now makes the one by the fiddle yard look tatty so hold the front page.Where's the Captains photos. ;)

A small prairie 4547 does the honours with a mixed train heading for Newton Abbott with a few fruit vans added to its coach.

I reckon the above is a scene that Don Breckon would have chosen to paint, especially with the red van!

Lovely stuff.

If you look carefully enough you can see him sketching whilst sitting on the bank. ;)

Has this layout ever appeared in a magazine or will it ever appear in one?

Its 'only' been in MI4 so far although there was talk of Andy Y doing a proper BRM article on it but he's very busy at the moment.Other magazines are also available. ;)

Well, well, well, what have we here then.Even the postman ,Peter Hazell has is head  turned and is surprised to see this loco class in South Devon as apparently they never ventured further west than Taunton.A short train of empties trundles through hauled by 66xx class 0-6-2 T 6676 still in her early livery.Scraping the barrel to shew something not seen before on here. ;)

I have always liked that class and the similar 0-6-2's that had their genesis in the Welsh Valleys and it surprises me they were not more widely spread. Still, if you have equally competent engines such as the smaller prairies and the 57's, I suppose their general lack of penetration into the real west is understandable. Yet more cracking photos Robin!

A few more of 6676.Just the straight out the box Bachmann with added crew, coal and correct [!] lamps.Talking of Mr Stationmaster.I hope he's taken his pills because due to a mishap of mine the next photos after these might/will give him heart palpitations and a cringe with swear words under his breath.....

Better ask Spams on the Treneglos team Phil [Mallard60022].I don't think they were seen in Cornwall.

"Better ask Spams on the Treneglos team Phil [Mallard60022].I don't think they were seen in Cornwall."

I would but they don't speak Janner so there may be some misunderstanding? Anyway they couldn't hear me above the loud gurgling of the spam's injectors (always sounded like an old wall mounted, higfh level toilet cistern IMHO :nono: )

Quack

I heard that, even above the cistern noises!

What's the question again??

Mike.Look away now ! As mentioned I had a mishap and the old Ratio bracket signal succumbed under the weight of my hand. Its been patched up but I will replace it with one of Dapol's new versions when they're released. As its the approach to my fiddle yard would it matter it has only two arms instead of three.Maybe just enjoy the scenery and overlook the junk.

Well, there's a 56xx that belongs to the preserved Bodmin Railway and that has certainly chugged up and down the banks to Boscarne and Bodmin Road. I don't recall ever seeing reference to them running on the same routes in steam days though. Panniers, Prairies and D22XXs, I'm certain but i'll look into the books....

A bit of indulgence here on my part as I really like this train ,I've shewn it before and is featured in quite a few of the books I own.The Penzance to Kensington milk train.

In Peter Gray's book 'Steam in Devon' there's a very nice photo on Rattery of  Hall class 6938 'Corndean Hall' with eight tankers and a van in the summer of '61.

So here's my 4948 'Northwick Hall' doing the same albeit in Great Western days.
