rockershovel
Digressing slightly, what does the helmet on your login avatar represent?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 28, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2016 It's the colas logo The helmet is actually called 'Oscar' and is a fancy hard hat that they use on the continent, I think it's supposed to have been issued in this country but no doubt there is some red tape stopping us getting them https://issuu.com/railmedia/docs/tre-may-15/
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 28, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) I thought you would be the right person to ask, is the 'purple glow' produced by the infrared equipment on the cab end of NR DBSOs RTOVs (9807 and 9814) visible to the human eye or does it just show up on cameras. Just thinking whether to model it with purple SMD LEDs or not bother. Callum As a Acko says you can't see them normally but they are picked up by certain cameras, I certainly wouldn't bother modelling them Edited December 28, 2016 by big jim

Give Brits that sort of tackle and they just flog it in the pub, require it from contract personnel at their own cost (usual UK practice) and they just steal them from each other. I've seen helmets of the sort used by German windfarm personnel, makes them look like US Marines. Edited December 28, 2016 by rockershovel
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 28, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2016 I think a lot of it may be being accepted for use by NR, they have built in ear defender/speaker/mic/Bluetooth etc for back to back talking but if you are wearing that lot how can you hear a train approach! Now my last 37 is at Derby 37424 which I originally crossed off as withdrawn. Lovely night shots Jim. Jamie

Probably the Bluetooth that's the problem. I certainly wouldn't trust most people I work with, with Bluetooth headphones...

RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 2, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 2, 2017 Bit of road learning today, cross city line from Lichfield to Aston, managed a couple of trips over it, not too taxing, lots of up and down speeds and badly sighted signals though! Lichfield TV Looking towards Lichfield city from the high level platform, there is only one platform on the top line and trains reverse there to head back to Birmingham, the line to the left is the up line from Alrewas that I already sign The staple of the line, the humble class 323 unit Down there again tomorrow and Thursday to get to signed off
RMweb Gold CovDriver Posted January 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 2, 2017 I see your on my patch Jim the beloved Cross City North I have to agree with you on some of the signal sighting especially NS57 on the Up as you approach Aston North Junction. there's a couple more and also during the slippy slidey season between Sutton Coldfield and Erdington in both directions can be interesting. Perhaps we may pass each other sometime. Hope you had a good Christmas and you have a happy new year Cheers Colin
RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 2, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 2, 2017 It's a handy little line to get in my card, yet another way out of Birmingham if there are issues in the mainline, hat a shame the line to Walsall isn't still in any more Got my maiden voyage on it Friday night (as long as I'm happy with it and am signed off) thankfully it's only at 30mph so I will have plenty of time to take it all in!!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted January 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 3, 2017 Back to it today, more road learning the cross city line Lichfield city station is a very impressive building of course at one time it was the junction to Walsall, you can see the route indicator to take you toward the old line above the 323 unit Did a couple of trips to and from Aston then popped into Birmingham to do something at moor st, 68011 was sat there waiting to head off to london Then back to Lichfield to get the train back to Crewe, saw a few things passing through while I was waiting, the iphone isn't the best at capturing things moving at 125 mph! Swifty11
Something from your Chiltern days for you to drive Jim, 67023/027 now re-allocated to the Colas (COTS) test train pool, seemingly the sale of the locos from DB to Colas is now in the public domain, although as of yet not confirmed. Interestingly a number of posts claiming this have miraculously disappeared off forums... (19:45 edit) Edited to correct typo.
