bgman
Ah a fan of Brunel are you Grahame. Lucky you like rivets then. Have you ever built a model of the Tamar Bridge yet, that's a brilliant bridge. Or if you're looking for a real challenge how about a model of the Great Eastern I bet that had loads of rivets. I bet even Allan couldn't knock together a Tamar Bridge, even in a week, although he's probably got some clever spray on rivet technique, you know how he is. Now available at your local DIY store in a can ! As for the Great Eastern, I haven't got there yet, will a Thames Barge do ? It's the best I can do at the moment ( apologies to Allan for posting these here !) Grahame
Iain Popplewell
Very very nice Bgman aka Grahame. I was on the point of thinking that maybe I'd been a bit thick, (ask anyone on this thread it's not unusual for me,) and not realised that Bgman stood for Broad Gauge man. Now I'm in a bit of a quandary does it stand for Barge Man. Lovely modelling, Thames Barges are just fantastic. To think that all that raw power, and they can shift, comes purely from the wind. Brilliant! I remember travelling out from Amsterdam to see a collection of windmills and that impression of raw power from something as innocuous as the breeze was just the same. Don't mention to Allan that I mentioned windmills as I did it once before and he's never forgiven me since. Can't think why. One point about your barge modelling and I hope I'm not being picky, is that they seem perilously close to capsizing. Maybe it's just a high wind. No problem to the Great Eastern though she'd sail through the roaring forties no prob. Brunel new what he was on about. Iain Popplewell
Just a word of caution Grahame that can of Instantbridge may not be as good as you think. I bought a can of Instantlayout and even though it was blxxdy expensive I found the results a bit disappointing; After one coat of Instantlayout. Quite frankly I expected more than this. It's a bit thin on detail if you ask me. Maybe I should have bought a bigger can and sprayed it on thicker. Doubly disappointing really, as stuff from JML is usually so good. allan downes
I go into hospital for a few days for surgery and folk flood my thread with boats and bridges ! Seriously though folks, all is more than welcome. Cheers. Allan.
Iain Popplewell
I wondered where you'd been. All the best and wishing you a speedy recovery. For three long days my post has been sat as the last post on the Allan Downes thread I was getting worried. 107 followers and 6160 postings I put on one picture of my layout, (I admit it's crxp) and I thought I'd killed of all interest in the thread forever. Phew Allan! so you can see why I'm glad to see you back. At least now there's two of us following the thread. allan downes
Thanks guys. Actually it was the third op this year in an attempt to move 20 bladder stones ! But hey, there's folk out there with far worse problems than a few boulders floating around in the nether regions ! Cheers. Allan.

allan downes
Two layouts for the price of one ? Previous pictures of this layout showed most of the railway structures built in red brick and served by the Southern Railway. Well, today it's presented mainly in course stone and served by the GWR instead ! The idea is that by changing the buildings around - and any regional giveaways - you can have a change of loco's and stock without all the excuses; build enough alternatives and you could run the entire pre grouping networks whenever you fancied a change of railway company ! As an aside to this, I learnt that before you even take the lens cover off your camera check first that everything that's supposed to be upright is upright such as lamposts mainly, water columns and, quite often, people. Of course, we never do and never will as you may well notice in some of the pics. Anyway, here's a few pics, upright or not ! Cheers. Allan
allan downes
And a few trees. These are sprigs of Sea moss, straight out of the box, sprayed with varnish and dipped in Noch leaves. The whole process took about 20 minutes to 'make' six trees If only real World gardening was that easy ! Cheers. Allan.

RMweb Gold teaky Posted April 5, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2017 (edited) Nice work there Allan. Very atmospheric. Most of it seems upright. I think it must be the photographer that's wonky. Edited April 5, 2017 by teaky
allan downes
A little sunshine and a little demolition as the alternative coal stage gets built. Nothing quite captures the effects of natural light as very morning the sun streams in through the window for about an hour ( or until it's replaced by the rain ) and lights up the layout beautifully. Cheers. Allan

Bill_J
Where did Iain Robinson's excellent model building blog disappear to? It used to be on blogger. Unfortunately Iain announced a couple of months ago that he was leaving Blogger without saying where or when he might appear again. Even his "treasure maps" blog has gone now. All I have been able to find is a back catalogue of images in Pinterest. Hopefully he will re-appear somewhere soon. Maybe here if he feels like it, I'm sure we all miss the to and fro

freebs
Iain's mine exploration blog makes excellent reading. It really does. It seems he's taken his modelling sites offline and has 'retired' from the modelling game. Such a shame, but I can understand. Who it becomes a chore, and not fun anymore, that's when to give up. Peterkern23
Could be this Allan? http://www.iainrobinson.online/metal/nant-gefail-y-meinars-copper-mine Thanks for accepting my request on Facebook by the way. I have started a thread for a layout i have finally gotten around to making. There's only a couple of bits in there but I thought you may like to be aware of it, it's a quieter area of the forum and would love your opinions on my work there. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/122687-shuker-field-micro-layout-4ft-x-18/&do=findComment&comment=2726024 Edited May 17, 2017 by Peterkern23
