RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted January 27, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2018 May have missed it but no one seems to have mentioned watching the new series of Wheeler Dealers with Ant of the Salvage Hunters Classic cars. I have watched both and am disappointed that Wheeler Dealers is set in America as I have no interest at all in American cars and would have preferred to see them source and sell cars here but that is just me. Salvage Hunters is good because they are doing two cars at once even if you see little of the work go into them. Only problem is that Drew is somehow even more irritating in this show than his own. Oh and the new show Goblin Works Garage although for you Land Rover lovers out there I would say avoid the latest episode.!
keefr2
May have missed it but no one seems to have mentioned watching the new series of Wheeler Dealers.....and am disappointed that Wheeler Dealers is set in America as I have no interest at all in American cars and would have preferred to see them source and sell cars here but that is just me. That's why I for one haven't mentioned watching it, as I don't, as like you I have about zero interest in American cars. Although I did used to enjoy 'Overhaulin', maybe because I really liked Foose's artwork that he produced showing his vision for the finished car..... allan downes
Only problem is that Drew is somehow even more irritating in this show than his own. Most TV presenters are irritating where I'm sure they all end up on Antiques programmes like 'Flog it' etc where they all try to be something they're not - funny - and dress like twats which they are. However, I do like that Brewster bloke who finds a bit of a banger then gets his mechanic mate to do it up and then flog it for a profit. What gets me however, is that he never takes into account the mechanic's time spent on doing all the work - as with the soft top M3 BMW recently that needed a second hand gearbox, complete second hand leather interior, refurbished alloys and you name it - when revealing the profit made. allan downes
Don't mince words Allan, tell us how you really feel lol.(I happen to agree mostly). Think we ought to start a new topic on " Most irritating TV presenters ever " and kick off with Ant and Dec the two most overpaid irritating and annoying presenters in all of TV history. Who's with me ? Allan.
RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted January 27, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2018 No not with you on that one Allan because if they irritate me I don't watch them. Only exceptions being Messrs Pritchard and Brewer because I filter them out and look at the pictures.

Oh dear, an opportunity lost for those who's intelligence has been insulted by inane excitable TV presenters fresh from children's TV who address us as they would a kindergarten audience - and as for Anita Manning and Tim Wonnacott, both life and soul of the party wannabe's....Well, you be the judge, Allan. Rugd1022
Evening Nidge, the book is this one; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sporting-MK1-Escorts-Originality-Factory-Original/dp/B01FIYWAUA/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1516997597&sr=1-3&keywords=factory+original+sporting+ford+escort However I bought it when it was still in print, for a lot less than the current Amazon prices! I've also got the Mk2 volume; https://www.speedyhen.com/Product/Dan-Williamson/Factory-original-Sporting-Mk2-Escorts--The-Originality-Gu/7478473 They are published by Herridge & Sons Ltd, don't know if that's who you meant? It doesn't actually say it's part of a series, but there are 3 on Escorts, the two I have and one on the RS Cosworth. Keith Cheers Keith - yes they're from the same series as the Mini book I have, they also do the E-Type and DB4/5/6. My mate's green and white Mk2 S is featured in the Mini one as it's never been restored. No idea why I typed 'Heritage'...!

Oh and the new show Goblin Works Garage although for you Land Rover lovers out there I would say avoid the latest episode.! Wheeler Dealers has been bought by a different (American) production company who decided to change the format and base it in America, which is why Ed left. I dont understand buying a successful program and then changing it, surely if its successful you leave it as it is? I lost interest in WD when Mike did his trading up series and it was all in Dollars, tells us who the target market is doesnt it! I am sat here watching one of the old ones with the Jensen Interceptor as I type, I would rather watch an old one I have seen several times than any of the new ones for the first time. As for Goblin Works, its okay (at least it is British) but taking a classic car and ruining it isnt my cup of tea, the girl on it is quite pleasing on the eye though. Car SOSage is my current favourite even with the parts blagging wearing a bit thin now.

Rugd1022
Ah the estimable Peter Bowles, one of those talented and very familiar faces who is seemingly never out of work - spotted on my TV screen last week in The Persuaders wearing a big fur coat and wafting about in a beige Series 1 XJ6 with Tony Curtis, and trying it on with Robert Vaughan in The Protectors at the wheel of a Citroen DS!

I knew Ed had left and the Production Company had changed but I didn't realise that it would be filmed across the pond. Also the dollars bit got on my nerves as well. I like Car SOS and they have done some great cars but the formula is getting tired and predictable which is a pity. Still that is TV for you I guess. As regards Tim Wonacott mentioned elsewhere he 'left' Antiques Roadshow because no one would work with him and there were several complaints. Lastly 'pleasing to the eye huh'? Well I never noticed.
alastairq
I do like the towbar bolted directly to the bumper, try that on a modern car and see what happens! I had an MG MAestro...once....damned good car once I'd fixed it [and emptied the doors of water]....its towbar was mostly supported by the tin that made up the spare wheel well....going up Birdlip Hill, I had to back off, towing around a ton of trailer.....being reminded that there was [and still is, I think...although judging by the antics of others, probably been rescinded, along with the rest of the Road Traffic Acts?}...a speed limit when towing any trailer....

Trouble is, when that happens they'll sell it to the Americans who will then change it....

RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 27, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2018 Has anyone seen salvage hunters classic cars? Ah yes. Birdlip Hill. Remember it well. Was racing an MG something or another up Birdlip Hill in a split screen Morris Oxford ( a wheezing heap and I had no chance even though I was in front to start with as we left The Cross Hands Pub at the bottom) and at the top was a T junction, a graveled lay by and an AA BOX. I hit the gravel, spun sideways into the AA box reducing it to matchwood but, at least I beat that MG to the top ! Allan

BBC ONE fill their Saturday Night peak viewing slot with an army of bloody similar irritating excitable idiots in "All Together Now".
