5 C
More from the Haynes Village 100. 1955 Ford Popular. Unrestored with original paintwork. 1955 Singer 9 Roadster A real favourite of mine, the Triumph Stag. They always seem to make a good showing at these kind of events, with at least six on display today. Not really a car, but worth including anyway. A beautifully restored Mark 1 Ford Transit. Mark IV Jaguar Hillman Minx
5 C
Last few from the Haynes Village 100. A rare sight these days and now 34 years old! A 1984 Talbot Solara LS 5 speed. Back to 1923 with this lovely Humber 8HP Wolseley Hornet. Pretty much original with ongoing restoration scheduled. Not on display, just parked in the car park! This one though, most definitely on display. Edited June 24, 2018 by 5 C

Porcy Mane
Two of Steed's six Bentleys used in 'The Avengers'... all looks very English and ticketyboo doesn't it... 16195948_457115818011532_6234895596596536780_n.jpg At least the Avengers pub is still open. Even the lion is still hanging. https://goo.gl/maps/VLnEEWsYy362 Oh! Snapped these Smiths Instruments and Lucas tell tales topping off this bit of green symmetry yesterday. jwealleans
This Cavalier is the oldest Mk.1 known in existence in this country. It was used by Vauxhall for the dealer launch, Earls Court Motor Show and in press and publicity material before being sold on. Well, seems there might be a dispute there. alastairq
I do note [having, in the past, been a 'victim' of the constabulary enforcement regime......]......that [if all those car above were actually driven to & From?].......the attitude towards quite illegal registration number plates seems to be more relaxed these days? For example, two Sprite mk1s?.....One with number stuck on slope of bonnet, the other indecipherable as to its location.....Or the Yank tanks with their quite illegal shapes, colours & fonts....Or the really old cars with the reg.number simply a set of characters stuck onto the red bodywork? I admit to carrying a set of 'legal' plates in the boot, of one of my oldies, if ever I got reprimanded for having small font, black background plates [colour correct for date ].....or indeed.....as happened with my Cannon, where the front plate was stuck to the bonnet front......the alternative being, a vertically-mounted plate which would have partially blocked the radiator intake.....the bonnet front being lower than average knee height!! At Sledmere old banger meet yesterday, noted an ancient Bentley [of the half-million-or-more value sort]....with a hand painted front number plate....very in keeping with the rest of the motor's 'patina' [if that's the right word for scruffy?] We all do hope we 'get away' with these infringements?

Rugd1022
Early Capris look great on period Minilites… Number plates, bit of a fetish of mine this - I get unhealthily annoyed when I see cheap Halfords modern plates stuck onto some of the cars in Wheeler Dealers! The right plates on the right car can often be the icing on the cake, I know it's now legal to fit black and silver plates to post '73 classics but they just don't look right somehow. Each to their own though. The only genuine period example of this I've come across so far was an article in 'Sports Car World' magazine from June '76, where a Lamborghini Countach LP400 is shown with the reg' number 'KWT 698N' in white digits on a black background.
Horsetan
.....I know it's now legal to fit black and silver plates to post '73 classics but they.... ....still have to be at least 40 years old and recorded as "historic". Can't just slap the silver/black plates on as some owners of modern cars seem to do.
Wolseley
More from the Haynes Village 100. Hillman Minx IMG_1263.JPG Now if only it was beige, that would be the same as the first car my father had after we arrived in Australia. I'm not sure of the location, although the most likely options are North Turramurra and Lane Cove, but here it is in 1958 or 1959, with me standing in front of it: Edited June 25, 2018 by Wolseley
Owd Bob
I once got done in the late '70's for an obscure number plate on a Escort mk1 van...(wish i had it now) it was the rear one and the ball of its tow bar just came up and over the centre of the plate...i argued that it was in the space in the middle between the letters and numbers and not hiding anything but the rozzer was'nt having it and said little and handed me a ticket....i got a £25 fine More from Lymm. I think the wheels on this Grandad could be better looking even if they are original!
keefr2
That's an unusual colour on the Clubbie, I like that! Almost looks like an ex Army or RAF Germany car! Anybody know what colour it is? Rugd1022
Porcy beat me to it on that lovely green Clubbie, I was just about to look up the old BMC / BL colour charts! Before he emigrated to 'orstralia twenty years ago a mate of mine had a '71 Clubman in Limeflower, a strangely popular shade on Minis back then which could best be described as a brownish khaki or a kharki-ish brown. He now owns three Auz spec Minis, I think two of them are Mk1s and the other a Clumban, all three being much posher than the contemporary British models, a bit like the Italian Innocentis and the Spanish built Authi Minis. As he lives pretty much out in the middle of nowhere he has a massive sprawling garage come workshop which will easily swallow at least a dozen Minis, the lucky blighter. Talking of older Minis, anyone fancy a genuine Neville Trickett built Minisprint? There's a fairly well known example up for grabs on one of the facebook groups, yours for a mere £39,995...!
Rugd1022
Meant to add - the alloys on the green Clubman are rather nice, and it's good to see a '70s BL Mini with the correct 'flying plughole of doom' badge on the A panel. And probably dozens of funnel web and redback spiders too, no doubt! I'll stick with my little single car garage - the hairy, eight legged beasts in there make me jump enough when they scuttle out from their hiding places! And £40K for a Mini I'd keep bumping my head on when driving? No ta, I'll pass! Keith

5 C
Well, seems there might be a dispute there. This from my post on the previous page: That's interesting. According to its information sheet, the provenence behind LOU848P is that it was used for the UK dealer launch held at Elstree Studios on 29th September 1975. It was then stored at Elstree along with other vehicles from the launch until shown at the Earls Court Motor Show in October. It was then used for a variety of press and publicity purposes before being sold through the network. Production of the Cavalier Mark 1 started at Antwerp (alongside the Opel Ascona) at the start of September 1975. Luton didn't start building them until 1977. Apparently its yellow paint finish (somewhat darker than NUP372P) was not available on the Cavalier until the following year. This would suggest it was some kind of pre-production vehicle, which often get used at launch for display, test and photographic purposes. There can be a reluctance to sell pre-production vehicles, as they're often a mish-mash of specifications, colours and trim and may not have the quality of a full production vehicle. That said, I can recall a number of occasions where "pre-prods" found their way onto the used market.
